Because on my 4-5 hour training loop, ~7k ft climbing, I may not see a water stop for ~4 hours. You think I carry the extra weight for funsies?

hard to tell. i've learned not to give people on BF the benefit of the doubt.

Understandable.

Frame mounted pump. In saddlebag: tube, levers, patch kit, CO2 inflator with 3 cartridges, multitool, chain tool, extra link,, cell phone, cleat covers. 2 water bottles on frame. I use my pockets for money, key, extra clothes when needed, food.

Yaniel 03-11-10 11:39 AM

I carry all my tools, tube, etc in a Pro storage bottle. http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=NP07739

Most of my rides have easy access to refill my water bottle so only one is necessary. If I need 2 bottles, I put the storage bottle in my jersey pocket and a second bottle on the bike.

That's a great idea. I think that's what I'll do. Lately I've been worrying about what I would do if I got a flat since I don't carry anything with me. I'm still a newbie, what can I say?

DinoShepherd 03-11-10 12:04 PM

I cut the top off an old water bottle and put my junk inside.

tube, lever, CO2, powerbar, patchkit and cell phone.

One bottle is usually good enough for our rides. Or there is a coffee break at some point.

an empty peanut butter bottle also works perfectly. though cleaning one out isnt always the easiest chore.

its even more ironic if you carry four water bottles in cf cages.

Don't your camelbaks have pockets on them too?

yea, i sat around for 2 weeks waiting for the peanut butter to empty out. nobody in my house eats much of it so I gave up and bought the Pro bottle.

i love peanut butter. especially super chunk...mmm

tridavis 03-11-10 12:32 PM

Have a little pouch that came with multi tool and put in money and license along with tire levers. Carry a spare tube and co2 all in my back pockets. It is very easy to grab these 3 things plus my cell phone and I am good to go. Just have never liked saddle bags....then when I go to one of my other bikes I don't have to move the bag around.

I painted a plastic tennis ball canister black and use that. I hate having crap in my pockets.

In my pockets. Everything you need fits in your jersey pockets.

I carry:
1 tube
1 C02
1 mini air-chuck
2 small tire spoons
1 cell phone
credit card
license
food

What else do you need?

Cash. Many of the cards and id's in my wallet, so the whole wallet goes in the pockets. Eyeglasses for work. Jacket or vest, gloves that were needed in the AM but is too much in the PM. Pager. Sometimes a nice sub sandwich. These things end up in my pockets frequently, so that there is less room for the tools and flat repair stuff. That's why I leave that stuff in a seat bag. But I use my road bike to travel to work, so that means I end up bringing a lot more with me than on a pleasure ride.

I have forgotten everything on that list at least once, many more often than that. That is why I like all my flat repair stuff on the bike, where it isn't dependent upon my memory. But I could fit my seat bag in my jersey pocket, when I am not filling them up with stuff, to achieve the effect you are looking for.

I just bought more saddle bags and flat repair kits, so there is one for each bike. I figure it adds about $50 to the cost of having another bike, so I just factor that in when buying more bikes. Plus the kit can be customized for each bike. Touring bike gets a bigger bag and a minipump, club bike gets a teeny weeeny seat bag and co2, family bike gets all sorts of stuff.

But I think it would be very easy to assemble a "bike wallet" that has your mini-tool, co2, tube, id, credit card, and cash in one easy to grab rig. The only problem is that I would forget to grab the bike wallet, guaranteed. *sigh*

Rack with bag on the back, small handlebar bag on the front.

I know this isn't for you but it's what I use

Yes, they do. A usefull little back up, since cell phones are not 100% reliable. Not sure that any major carriers bother with them anymore. It may be only a local thing. Its easier to hear the cell phone using ear phones on the bike, however.

Perhaps you'd like to rephrase that?
