Clearing the nasal passage

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clearing the nasal passage

Does anyone get nasal blockage when they ride? You know flem build up, snot, nasty boogers. I can't stand it, it only happens when I ride and I think it is hindering my performance. Breathing is a very important aspect of bieng an athlete and I want to experiment with different breathing techniques, but I can't breath from my nose.

Is there any age old cycling secret to clearing the nose b4 you ride?

No real secret to it. Just launch some snotrockets as often as necessary. Just be careful. You don't want to hit a passing car, pedestrian, or even yourself. I hate it when that happens.

Talk to your doctor about exercise-induced vasomotor rhinitis. I get those same systems while hiking, and my doctor prescribed Astelin nasal spray. No side effects, doesn't dry out nasal passages, just stops the running nose. I haven't tried it while biking, but I'm sure I will soon!
