Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Help making first purchase please

Hello,

I have been reading though the forum for quite some time and have found great information. I'm looking at purchasing my first road bike. I have found 2 used bikes that both seem to fit me and feel good. I am having troubles deciding which to purchase.

2005 Trek 2100 56cm
and
2005 Specialized Tarmac Comp

Both are equipped similarly with 105 and Ultegra rear derailer.

Any ideas that can help me decide or words of caution about either?

Thank you in advance for the assistance!

Make a list on each one as to what you like or dislike.

You can compare the original bike specs here, if this helps.

Doesn't sound like you can go wrong as long as both of them fit like you say. Both are quality bikes and the components are solid. There's no right or wrong answer- you just have to make a decision. You probably have a gut feeling. Just go with it.
