Out with the Old, In with the New

So my 2008 Trek Pilot fell off my carrier on Tuesday (I'm told it works better if you actually fasten the straps) :bang: and was run over by a Semi. RIP. One year and just under 5000 miles. You served me well.

Well today I ordered a new 2010 Cannondale Carbon Synapse with full Dura Ace :thumb::thumb: Sould be here April 3rd! Can't wait.

sickkk upgrade, you'll notice a difference.

RacerOne 03-18-10 07:22 AM

It's not about the bike ;)

Nope, but you need a functioning one to be a runnercyclist!

Miller2 03-18-10 08:56 AM

It'll ride beautifully...enjoy it!! I built up an 09 Hi-Mod Synapse with SRAM Force and am very pleased with it.

Excuse me, but

(I'm laughing at how you described it, not the fact that your bike got run over. I just appreciate dry humor.)

I hope you enjoy the new bike! I just got a new one this year, and the anticipation of that first ride is always fun. I hope you have great weather for the maiden voyage!

downtube42 03-23-10 06:25 PM

So was the semi okay?

Thank you! It will be a night ride with the LBS and it is supposed to be 62 and sunny!

"Semi-okay" I see what you did there. Clever

The truck sustained no observable damage. He was right behind me and saw the bike come off the rack. The bike wedged between the concrete and the front axle of the cab.

nahh 03-23-10 07:28 PM

Ya know, you don't have to throw your bike under a semi just to upgrade. some people just keep the old bike, or sell it.

chado445510 03-23-10 07:29 PM

Oh, well that's a shame, but..... That bike does look nice. They have it at my LBS with ultegra and it looks awesome!

Any pics of the runover Trek?

Nah..he should know his priorities and strap his daughter on the roof and his bike stays inside! :D

Seagull01 03-23-10 08:36 PM

Sad story, but at least there is a happy ending.

And also - this is EXACTLY why I ALWAYS throw the U Lock on when I am carrying my bike. The U lock is my backup strap :)

No. The results were remarkably unremarkable. Handlebars sheared 1/4 of the way off. Pedals sheared off. Saddle and seat bag gone (recovered the next day though on the shoulder of the freeway), Front wheel shredded, rear spindle shreadded. Bike shop said frame is undoubtably comprimised and bike totaled. Good news is home owners insurance covered it less my deductable.

HMMM...that's a thought. I coulda never afforded this upgrade without the insurance check though.

I now have two new policies when it comes to strapping on the bike: 1) Strap on the bike instantly upon returning from the ride and announce outloud "Bike is strapped in" and 2) double check the straps and carrier before turning the ignition key (even when I know I strapped it in).

(3) don't drive into garage while bicycle on roof.

If you have good insurance, it's a no-brainer!
