Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Centaur UT Compact Question

I just scored a great deal on CL; $200 for a brand new Campy Centaur UT compact crankset. I got the compact for the Wintergreen TT Ascent on 5/1.

I plan to install the new cranks on my Pegoretti which has ~2003 Carbon Record shifters and FD. Will I need to swap out the FD, shorten the chain, etc. to make this combination work or will it work as is? My other option is to install the compact on my Calfee on which I am running 2008 Chorus.

Thanks!

FD will work fine (you'll have to lower it a tad most likely). you may have to shorten the chain by a link or two.

This. I installed one of those on my wife's bike a few months ago. Lowered the FD and needed to take a link out of the chain. You may or may not need to do the latter.
