+1 on Fry's, great store, but I don't make the trip down very often.
Yeah, Radio Shack has gone downhill. My dad being a typical electrical engineer, we'd make regular trips to pick up parts for things he was "fixing". Even he's stopped going now, though. Seems like you have to fight past incompetent customer service people to find what you need. They have no idea where anything is of course, despite the fact that the stores are usually tiny. |
maybe ask the same question on a robotics forum? you may get more yes answers...

I also made some very primitive FM radio based walkie talkie systems when radios first became legal, using RadioShack bits and pieces. Before I could use it they somehow became less legal, I forget the rule change, but it was all good. I've never raced with tactical radios, only as a roving course marshal. I always wished Radio Shack would bump it up that final 20%. Like if they got good audio speakers or amps or something, they have all the cables and such. cdr |
Haven't shopped there since my last "Tandy Battery Club" card expired, probably 27 years ago.
When I was a kid they would always take down your name and address for even the most pitiful purchase of a twin pack of diodes. I would give the name and address of someone in my 5th grade class as a "prank." I was always worried that if they got wise to me the clerk would hold me by the arm until the cops showed up. Hopefully the statute of limitations is up on that one. |
Batteries!
Batteries! Radioshack employees have never failed to find batteries I need, regardless of the size or type. And quickly. Perhaps Louisville KY stores hire better employees or train them better.

Fry's is the new RadioShack, atleast here in N.Texas.

It's another one for no shopping at Radio Shack.
When your not treated right... |
I've gone there,i get little gizmos resistors, caps and potentiometers for building some effects pedals for guitar.
On the flip side ,the help is generally useless, but really like its any better at home depot, its all a bunch of people making min wage who dont know crap. |
So, if Best Buy buys Radio Shack Lance team will team Team Best Buy instead??
|
capacitors, resistors, etc... they usually also have some decent laptop accessories and toys for kids.
p.s. how's the ti build coming along? |
Radiocrap has some odds and ends you can't find anywhere else, but in general they sell crap. I wouldn't even buy cables from them because they sell cheap everything. But finding stuff like transistors, rca plug adapter, or a hobbyist that wants to make a cheap radio from scratch their ok. Their vacuum tubes are not the best but they work especially for lower end tube electronics; I have a old 50's era Zenith am radio and have no problem using Radio Shack tubes for it (if they still have them for this radio, I bought the last set over 20 years ago), but I wouldn't use RS tubes for my McIntosh 275.

No one does, they have no customers.

If you're desperate and need a cable or connector right away then radioshack might be the place but if you can wait for shipping monoprice.com is the way to go.

i am amazed that they are still in existence actually.
And their attempt to re-brand/invent themselves as "The Shack" just pisses me off. |

I'm surprised that Radio Crap survived as long as they have, but that also includes Kmart and Sears. I'm predicting that all 3 of these will be gone between 5 to 10 years tops.
