Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you unclip your right or left foot first?

I unclip my left foot first every time.

Just gathering a little useless knowledge.

left foot, if I unclip the right I tend to give myself the cat5 tattoo.

right handed. but I taught myself to unclip the left, before I would always do the right.

Left always.

Is there anyone here who seriously unclips their right foot first (unless from the UK)?

Why would being from england make you do right foot? Curb is on the left hand side, seems logical to do that one.

I unclip left, and am right-handed.

The only thing that is weird about my left/right preferences is that I punt a football with my left foot, and would also do a field-goal kick with my left foot. But for writing, throwing a ball, batting, etc., I am right-handed.

If it makes any difference, I snow-board "regular" (versus "goofy"), which means that my left foot is normally my front foot on the board. (I don't know if this usually correlates with "handedness", or not.)

Oh, and if I was going to skid my bike to a stop (like I used to do as a kid, with a coaster-brake, and like some fixie riders do), I'd do it with a left turn. Similarly, when ice-skating, a skating-stop to the left is a tad more natural to me, than to the right.

goofy and regular is completely independent of "handedness"

right handed, right footed, right foot first.

is this the most boring thread ever? there are only 2 possibilitties. left and right. let's see how many times we can say left, right, right, right, left left....etc. you get the picture.

Left handed, right foot first

Though I am kind of weird because I write and eat with my left but do everything else with my right hand.

left foot, left handed. Due to the curvature of the roadbed, my left foot is closer to the ground than the right, so unclipping on the left side feels safer.

I also ride motorcycles, we are trained to put our left foot down for stops.
Since our right foot is used for the rear brakes. Left foot down, left handed.

I'm ambidextrous, so I unclip both feet simultaneously.

Right-handed, but left-footed. Go figure...

Anyway, I usually unclip the left foot first. That way if I mess it up and fall over my ample butt is between the expensive drivetrain parts and the ground.
