Some good comments in that cyclingnew Fitness Q&A.
I stick by my opinion that you can work with some numbness but "throbbing feet after 30 mins" = find some other shoes!
My current shoes are Sidi Zephyrs and as per a previous comment I needed an added insole for them to work well. I think they're Spenco but I'll have to check.

Have you thought that after trying four different types of Sidis that maybe... possibly... they're just not the right shoe for you even though they're popular with a lot of people. It only took me one pair of Ergo 2's to figure that out. Just because they work for one person doesn't mean the last in that shoe is going to fit your feet optimally.
Inversely I noticed that after a year of cycling as my pedaling mechanics drastically improved I stopped getting numb toes, so it's possibly that poor pedaling mechanics are to blame.

+1 I was tightening my straps too tight and had tingling in my feet. I now don't tighten them as much and they are much more comfortable.
yep i just push the straps in and ratchet maybe once but that is it.

This thread is making me think more about the Ergo 2 I just got. Prior to these, I'd been wearing Time Racing Carbon with 2 straps without any inserts since 1991. I like and am accustomed to a no-insert feel, so, maybe that's why I like the feel of the Sidi thus far, just on the carpet (making sure I have right size before putting on cleats).
Yeah, cdr, I do like that dial adjuster better than a middle strap; although, again, No cleats in them yet.
And these are crazy money, but, I'm assuming that I may wear them for as long as I wore my Time, for which I think I paid a crazy price nearly 20 years ago, maybe $150/175 back then.

Bostongarden u cant imagine how i miss my time racing shoes also. Sadly i got too fat for them hehehe. Awesome shoe, the only thing it sucked was that to use any 3 bolts cleats u needed to have the inserts. I had the regular model, not the carbon and it rocked big time, i believe mines came with 3 straps, cant remember. Even back in the day Look made a super nice shoes also.

I still love my Time shoes, even with all the weather abuse that they have been through; but, the upper is getting close to where it might give way without notice, and, that would not be pleasant in a race The fit is perfect. The Sidi are the closest that I have found thus far.

how long are you trying them out for? my sidis felt too tight when i first got them and my feet would start going numb around an hour. after two weeks of rides they now fit perfectly and wouldn't trade them for anything. mine just needed to be broken in.

Boston i had the time pedals also... now im using time rsx carbon, nice pedal after all. In the shoe dept i went with a carnac quartz. Not big problems with it but not near to the time u have in my opinion. Then carnac came with that fugly shoe just like time did.

I revived this in case someone has more info to share. Ordinarily, I have no foot pain. I have adjusted my Sidi Gensis shoes so I don't have any tingling in my toes or pain-- provided I am on normal terrain and I spin a lot. However, I am feeling numbness in my forefoot when I stomp on the pedals a lot when I am climbing hills. I have tried moving my cleats around, having very loose straps, whatever I can think of. As long as I don't climb and put lots of pressure on my stroke, I am fine. The shoes feel perfect. But when I hit the hills, problems begin.
I haven't tried arch support. Would that help. Should I try different cleats? I am using the classic look cleats which seem to have the right float for me. Or could it be that I need stiffer shoes? Way back in the past, I had Detto Pietro shoes and I never felt any pain. I wish their old 2 screw system was compatible with modern 3 point cleats.
Any thoughts?
