No, I understand your logic. I know you are are not saying that you condone theft; only, you would rather have a stolen bike than a damaged one, (not knowing the bike's history).
I think it might be something more like this:

Thanks for the support man. I don't mean to sound like an ass when I say I'd rather it stolen then it be a deathtrap, I'm just looking out for my own self at this point, as I can't think of anyway I'm getting my stolen bike back, I'm sure if this one is stolen it won't be returned to its original owner. But regarding the bike you posted, do you think $150 for it is a good price for a bike like that (assuming it isn't damaged)?

$150 for a full carbon fiber bike with 105 components is some huckster looking to scam you. it's not a reasonable price unless they are trying to move stolen goods, or getting rid of a broken frame on someone who doesn't know enough to figure it out. even the people trying to move hot merch around here sell their goods at a higher price than that, so it seems even more ridiculous.
as to your height question. it is likely that a 56 is too small even with excessive adjustment to make it fit you. however, id pass on this "deal" and look for something that is both a reasonable price and is more likely to fit you. if you want to know what size of bike you should be looking for, get fitted, then look for bikes that size that aren't a scam waiting to happen

^^ Exactly. I am 6'0" and ride a 56 with 130mm drop - fits perfectly. If you have long legs/short torso, you might be better off with a smaller size.

Bikes that don't fit are awesome!
Do you show up to interviews with suits from the dollar store that fit way too small or way too big?

If it's a CFR frame with the aluminium lugs, they were sized on the odd numbers, so it can't be a 56 and a CFR. IIRC they went compact straight after that and went to small, medium, etc...
Anyway, there's typically very little difference in the length of top tubes between a 57 and a 59; maybe 5mm. Just means you'll be showing more seatpost than usual (which doesn't hurt your ride comfort any), and 90° stem is prolly the go if you CBF...

Eh - you never know. The deal itself isn't indicative of a scam, but it should be approached with caution. FWIW, I once bought a rather nice stereo system from a guy: Conrad Johnson Premier 14 linestage (still in my system today), C-J MF2500A power amp, KEF Ref 107 II speakers, Meridian 508.24 CD player... retail on the package would have been around $20k when bought new, 8-10 years previous... I paid $300.

If the price is so far out of proportion to the value of the bike, or other circumstances would indicate to a reasonable person that the bike was stolen, you can be guilty of a crime (of course depending on the wording of the statute in your jurisdiction) even without actual first hand knowledge of the theft.
2) You're right not buying a stolen bike will not get the bike back to its owner. However, buying a stolen bike feeds a market that continues to strengthen the incentive for people to steal bikes.
3) How would you feel if you came across a guy who knowingly bought your stolen bike for 1/10th of what it was worth? Great find, congratulations? Or you ass, you've got my bike?
4) In the process of trying to score an incredible price, you maybe the one getting scammed. There's no honor among thieves.

there's no way to know if it's stolen or not. sometimes a deal is a deal. maybe he's not selling it for the money... i got a bike below fair market value because the guy had too many bikes and he said 'selling one of my bikes is like selling one of my children' he just wanted there to be some incentive for a cyclist to buy it and actually ride it, as opposed to just giving it away to an opportunist, who would just flip it back on CL or ebay.
i wouldn't turn this down just on the tiny amount of info that we know so far. either way, go meet the guy and see if the bike is what he says it is. also, if it looks like a shady back-alley deal, use your best judgement and make the ethical decision.
you want to ride, so if it's not shady, go get the bike and ride the fking thing! ignore the naysayers and do what's best for yourself and teh cycling community.

My point was addressed to the point that he was ok with buying a stolen bike.

WhyFi got a super deal on stereo stuff. It couldn't have been stolen, because drug-addict home-robbery thieves never steal stereo gear. They go for refrigerators, washers and dryers and water heaters. They love the challenge of moving heavy appliances. They never steal bikes because it would violate their aesthetic sensibilities. At $150, it's not even a legitimate owner with a cracked frame, the used 105 components go for more than that. Don't believe me. Ask to see the original sales invoice. "I lost it man." Okay, "Where did you buy it, let me visit the seller you got it from and hear their story."
A good bike from legitimate sources, you have to pay for. If you want to go into the criminal economy, you should skip middleman, get a gun, terrorize and bike-jack riders , or get some bolt cutters or battery-powered carbide saw/grinder to cut through locks of parked bikes. The tools cost some bucks, but you do a few high-end thefts and sales, you're in the black.
Your choices are, "This deal is too good to be legitimate, but if I don't take it, somebody else will so, I'm takin it..." or "I'm not connecting myself to this. Somebody else will buy it, but it's not going to be me." Those are your choices. In the latter case, call the police to investigate.
What we really need to do is string up thives, stolen-property sellers and buyers, and remove them from our midst.
It's interesting we have "anti-terrrorism" sh**t after 911. Terrorism didn't begin on 911 by oversaeas Arab extremists. it was long-established here. Suppose a drug-addict pulls a gun on you. Demands your wallet, your car, your bike. Or trashes your house. That's not a terrorist? F**K it sure is. Like you could write a book, "I Had A Personal Terrorist, You Can Get One Too. "

I would be worth noting that if the bike is one of those Al lugged carbon jobs, it's real world value is < $250; in that case, it would not be surprising at all to find one for ~ $150. If the bike was a TCR/OCR, the ad probably would have included that information.

Height alone is not really a good way to size yourself up on a bike. I'm 6'1" also, and I feel great on a 56cm frame. Nothing too weird going on to fit it to me either, I've got a 100mm stem with a slight drop and a good amount of setback on the seatpost. Haven't measured the saddle to bar drop, just by eyeballing it looks somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 cm.
