Roadies: Do you race/bike and not shave?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Roadies: Do you race/bike and not shave?

Yeah, so I'm not going to be shaving at all.

Will I get funny looks when I go out to race?
Is there anyone on here who races and doesn't shave their legs/arms?

Yes, but I'm asian so I lack any significant amount of body hair in the first place.

Okay, how about this: Do you race, not shave, and have hair on your legs?

You will get funny looks but not because of your hairy legs. Everyone will be wondering why you are checking out everyone elses legs.

I have several ex-pro/cat 1 teammates who don't shave. Don't worry about it, nobody gives a crap except on these stupid forums.

Edit: You should just worry about getting your ass dropped.

I shave mine, but I don't "give a crap" if someone else shaves their legs or not.

At a race, nobody is going to care. Well maybe some will but so what?

incorrect.

As for myself, I used to shave and typically do but haven't since I hurt myself over the xmas holiday last year. I'll probably whip out the razor again as soon as I can train as much and as hard as I want but i'm in no rush.

Shaved legs are to the cycling what the mohawk is to punks. It looks pretty intimidating, though for everybody except for pros who get daily team-provided massages and ultra-disciplined amateurs who massage their own legs, shaving really doesn't do anything. I know a masseuse who will tell you that she can knead-up a hairy pair of legs just fine. Then again, pros and posers alike do crash, and cleaning and bandaging shaved legs is a hell of a lot easier.

Myth... anyway to the Op, if you want to shave - shave, if you don't, then don't

The OP is asking about other people at races, not cars.

I shave because I like looking at my own sweaty legs. They feel purdy too!

Just do it. It will always be too early until you go out and try it.
