Though, you might have been best off ordering the Brooks bartape as well. I've been hearing that Brooks bartape lasts longer than cheaper brands and non-leather stuff.

That is a generator hub you have in front there, isn't it? How are you liking it so far?

Yep, another B-17! My first was so good, I decided to go for another. Not only are they very comfortable, but I love the look of them. :)

They do take some time to break in. You've got to tip the nose of the saddle up a bit to force you back onto your sitbones and to help prevent that slippery-slidey feeling they have when they are new. And then ... just keep riding. My first took about 800 km of riding to break in.

I am thinking of ordering the Brooks handlebar tape, but it is so expensive, and I go through handlebar tape quite quickly for some reason. I'm forever riding around with my handlebar tape in tatters. So I'm just not convinced that spending $100 on tape would be worth it.

And yes, that is a Schmidt SON dynohub ... the same as what I had on Machak. Rowan built me the wheel I had on Machak, with the Schmidt SON dynohub back in 2006 and it was great, so it was definitely something that was going to go on this titanium. We do a fair amount of night riding, so the dynohub is a much better choice than going with battery lights.

800km.... Still 700 more to go... :( Ah well, should get there sometime. I already prefer this saddle over the old one :)

Thanks for the advice on mounting the seatpost clamp the other way around too! I've done it too, and since then there's less squeaking and sliding of the post. Was great advice!

I've done 1100 km on my titanium bicycle. I didn't realise I'd done that much riding on it. But in thinking about it, I have done a 230 km ride, three 100 km rides, and numerous other rides between about 20 km and 50 km over the past 4 months. I like the new wheels. Could be my imagination, but the bicycle seems to roll a lot better now. :)

Of that 1100 km, I've done about 100 km on my new green Brooks ... still a long way to go to break that in!! But it's not bad. I did a 46.8 km on it today and only struggled with the last 5 km or so.

I've now got 2300 km on the titanitum (we've been riding the tandem a lot lately), and yesterday I did my first century on the "new" Brooks saddle. Still having a bit of difficulty breaking it in considering I've ridden it 1300 km so far!

Rowan got me a green Pendle Carradice bag for Christmas, so here's the titanium with the Carradice ...

Do you have two stems on that bike? That's...unconventional. What's in all the bags?

Just the usual randonneuring type stuff in the bags. :)

And more ...

The saddle is green, but for some reason the green doesn't photograph well.

And now I need to keep an eye out for a green handlebar bag ... and green gloves ... and ... :D

Very nice Machka!

What bars do you have on it? Looks like a black wing shape, which is what I'm looking for and hope that you can tell me more about this one.

Thanks ...

And they are UNO Ultralight bars.

Very nice bike.

What mirror is that?

Machka 05-04-11 05:46 AM

The mirror is a Zefal Spin ... I like it because it's small yet effective.

So sorry to hear about your stolen bike. It's such a violation of personal property and emotional connections (even if it's inanimate). I hope your new project fills the void and provides greater pleasure than your wildest expectations. As far as the thief goes, I hope he gets justice served and you recover your bike.

Have fun, your project bike looks awesome!

Rowan liked my frame so much that he got one too! :D He is in the process of building it up.

Make sure he posts the progress either here, or on Flickr so we can enjoy this progress along with him :)
