Hehe, funny.

Man.. looking @ umd's videos... I wish I had friends (That didn't live 430 miles away in Hollywood)... where's my violin.

...and, Razor, I have the cam mounted on the stem dead-center, but the lens is offset on the camera itself. I tried mounting on the bars, but it both used up a hand position and plainly took on too much vibration.

I can't wait to lose 30 more pounds and see what kinda stuff I capture (besides holding a line and not running red lights..opps!)

You and I both. Watching that little whippet umd's videos make me sick! ooh you are all fast and look pro. well my biceps are bigger than you legs, so put that in your jersey pocket for later :p Just kiddin' umd, had to have a little fun. Your videos actually inspire me to get out there with my fast group and continue getting dropped until I can keep up for the 30 mile trip.

Keep the videos coming, I am enjoying them. I am thinking of getting a cam now and doing it like "Hey, look at the big muscle bound cat 5 jerk!" type videos. Maybe give the clydesdales who are just joining the sport some hope :)

I should take video of some other surrounding cities with higher dollar per capita.... those I'm jealous of. Left turn lights that tell drivers to wait behind the cyclist!

There was an idiot on my ride this evening that needed to see that light. He literally came within 6 inches of me. I am getting tired of pelting Mercedes at every stop light with my water bottles because some idiot does that. I know, you are supposed to throw your bottles off the side of the road, out of traffic, but I can't help when the Benz is in the way. Oops!

heh :D... This is serious.. I know

I went out this morning and tested the camera mount. It works ok, still pretty bumpy but that's probably because it's mounted right on the bars. I ran through video through Apple's Motion to try to reduce the seizure inducing vibrations. I didn't realize that it works by actually moving the entire frame, essentially just automatically key-framing it all keeping a refrence point in the center. (or I assume) If I do this again I think I'll just stretch the video as to not have the black border when it gets moved around.

Here is a short (less than a minute) video of one of my favorite hills, I topped out at 39 this morning :( again the quality is mad shanty...

Plz. Stop it.. For those of us thousands of miles away from our bikes, this thread is torture..

Early laps from yesterday's crit. I'm going to take the while crit and edit it down and add commentary when I have a chance, but I thought I would sare this in the meantime.

This clip starts a few laps in already, the first several were uneventful, except that I forgot to turn the power alert off on my Garmin and drifted from the front to the back while I fiddled with it to turn it off. Around 3 minutes in on the video I start moving up and right as I am reaching the front my teammate launches on the right side at 4:10, so I stay near the front but don't chace. The pack gets strung out and I hop back in line maybe 10 riders back. Coming around the start finish around 5:00 they ring the bell for a prime, and I decide to try to go for it. I fight to hold my position near but not at the front for the next two corners and jump on the attack at around 5:35. We were strung out and snaking all over the road, but shortly after the final corner it was clear there was no way I was going to get the prime and I backed off.

umd 04-27-10 12:53 AM

The next clip is about halfway through the race. There were a few riders off the front, maybe a quarter of a lap, maybe less. Around a minute in, my teammate starts moving up the field so I follow him. On the backside of the course, at 1:45 he attacks to bridge and I sit at the front again just fast enough to discourage others from coming to the front but not fast enough to pull him back. Unfortunately they rang the bell for a prime as we came around and a bunch of riders attacked on the left side. Watch for the rider at 3:05 that cuts across my line and actually hits my front wheel. I wobbled a bit which caused my elbows to hit my knees but you can't see any of that from the camera. The guy on my right saw it though... I backed off and filtered back a bit to recollect my nerves.

You guys do realize you just made me decide to buy a helmet cam, right? Grrrr, the expenses of this sport just never end...

coasting 04-27-10 03:30 AM

excllent thread and very entertaining.

I thought I red somewhere before that helmet cameras are not allowed in races. Maybe I misremember.

This was a proposed rule that failed to pass in late 2009.

Like the vids umd.

Gives me hope and all these videos make me want to jump out and ride every damn time I watch'em

Oh yeah - Costco started selling reg. GoPro Hero Wides today for 99 bucks. Comes with the waterproof case... a two piece extension. The video and charge cord, 2 straight sticky mounts, 2 curved sticky mounts and two lithium AAA batteries. good enough deal where I bought one on the spot and plan on recording behind me or helmet in SD while recording in front @ HD then overlap the video near the bottom :)

That's because Youtube has a 10 minute limit.

I wasn't able to fix the video until today. I recut it and removed about 2 minutes so that it fits under the limit. I realized after I made the video that the average speed calculations don't account for the stopped time when we waited for a guy to fix his flat, that's why it drops so much.
