Awesome videos, but your captions could be subject to misinterpretation by some to the deviant minds here.

Thanks! The meaning of "action" to meet will always meaning either high speed cornering or attacking twisty roads.

New Video, beautiful sunset along with winding twisty roads and beautiful music.

I know this video is 2 years old, but at the start of the video, is that where you lived? If so, that is my street.

The beginning of the vid is just where I started filming. I live in West New York, NJ - Hudson county.
You're lucky to have the Central Park loop practically by your doorsteps and the Hudson River path a
couple of minutes away. I have to ride at least half an hour to get to some decent routes; 9W, River
Road below the GW, etc. Here's an update on that video; new pedals, new bike - same route:

Gotta get a GoPro! Good stuff!

Who wants to take a ride down 17 Mile Drive in Monterey...

djb 02-04-14 08:02 PM

budkid, tks for that. Brought back memories of going along it in the other direction the last section of my west coast trip many many moons ago. I remember it being pretty and all, but the main memory is just of the wealth represented in the houses.

I removed the power gauge since I don't own a power meter, and I changed the heart rate readout from red to yellow to make it easier to read.

Here's a descent from the same group ride.

Here's the climb back out of that canyon.

I know this one is a mtb climb, but this demonstrates the additional features of the current version of DashWare. All the previous videos were created with a version that was several years old, so it didn't have as many default gauges to choose from. It also didn't encode at bitrates higher than 10000kbps. My new GoPro Hero3+ records at 15000kbps at 720p 60fps. The current version of DashWare encoded this at over 17000kbps, so the quality of the edited version is slightly better, at least on the file that's stored on my hard drive. YouTube probably dumbed it down so it looks just like the first two videos.

Since my mountain bike doesn't have a speed/cadence sensor, I didn't use my modified default speed/cadence/heart rate gauge. I modified the low-speed dial gauge instead. I removed the gray and black background. This looks better and allows the scenery to show through. I also changed the color of the digital readout from red to yellow to make it easier to read at lower resolutions and screen sizes. The rest of the gauges are unmodified default ones except the distance one, which is a simple text gauge I made.

Cool stuff, I just subscribed to your channel. :)

I betcha poor Mr Squirrel has some sore ribs today. Good thing for all involved you were going fairly slowly, it might have been messy if not.

George 02-05-14 06:54 PM

Hey freighttraininguphill

Good videos as usual. That downhill was great, I didn't care for the truck driver, but it proves those kind of people are everywhere.

Thanks for the videos. Ride safe.

djb 02-06-14 08:01 AM

train-I have run over squirrels on both motorcycles and bicycles, and always in that split second lighten the front and dont make any swerving actions, not because i want to sqwersh the little guys, but I'm not going to lose the front and go down for a squirrel. A little kid of course, I'd go down to avoid a person, but a squirrel, nope.

Here are a few I've made. Mine are much less techinical as I don't do any formal group rides and I mostly put these together for the people I ride with.

I'm using a Contour Roam. I think the GoPro has the Contour beat in picture quality. Also being directly mounted on the bars I get some vibrations.

Woods Valley Road - Inland North County San Diego. One of my favorite streches to ride.

Downhill into San Pasqual Valley. I can never break 40mph!

Some highlights from a ride last month. Valley Center/Lilac Rd./Couser Canyon/Bonsall. Couser Canyon is like cycling mecca in this area. It's the downhill starting @ 1:10.

PatrickGSR94 03-11-14 08:55 AM

Hey I saw you posted a couple of YT vids after the hard crash one. Have you ridden since then or were those just other previous rides? I haven't had a chance to watch them yet.

Ive been trying to figure out a way to mount my camera to my bike frame on the neck tube.
I like the videos but I dont like how the Helmet and handlebar mounts move so much. I want to video the road ahead of me not where my helmet to handlebars point. It makes it kind of a dizzying view.

No one thing seems to be perfect but a combination of things built together would suffice.
If I was just an engineer with a manufacturer in my back pocket, I might be able to manage it!

:)

The gopro handlebar/seatpost mount might work depending on how big your head tube is. Could also try the helmet mount wrapped around the head tube, although it might bounce around a lot. I used the helmet mount for awhile on my bars but it bounced a lot.

For me, the k-edge mount solved all my problems. It still attaches to the handlebars but its rock solid and I don't notice a lot of camera shake. Haven't taken it out on the mtb yet tho.

Unfortunately the neck tube is just too thick. Ive tried standard mounts, brackets, straps, zipties and collar clamps.
Nothing is 100%. I swear if I could just have the resources at my finger tips, I could create the perfect all in one mount.

I am riding a charity event this weekend and I borrowed my friends Hero3. I am excited to get some video, hopefully I can get a good video and post it up here. The ride doesn't look like it goes anywhere super interesting, but I will see what I can get. I also ordered a K-Edge mount...it should arrive today!

Hey now, mile 50 goes right by my house! Haha, I said the same thing - "oh, we're doing the same roads I ride daily, fun..."

If the wind continues to be out of the north like it has the last few days, I think we'll appreciate the mostly East/West direction of the route. Deer Valley and Happy Valley are pretty boring, but going around Deems, Vistancia, and West Wing isn't too bad - all are nice neighborhoods with giant bike lanes. The ride up to Anthem will have some easy climbing which will most likely be into the wind. I rode up that way last weekend and the climb up into the wind was slow going, but coming back down was a blast. Nothing beats going down hill with the wind at your back. I ran out of gears and pedaled out a couple of times. After Anthem, we'll come down Dove Valley/Sonoran Pkwy, which is a beautiful new road with giant bike lanes and low traffic - open desert to the south and mountains to the north. It's a very scenic road and will be a pleasure at the end of the ride.

I'm bringing my gopro as well and have about 3 hours worth of batteries. I think I might just do photos at the beginning, maybe one every minute or so to try to save battery life, then save my last two batteries for the last two hours of the ride.

Also, the K-Edge gopro mount is the best.

Yea I have never rode in that area. So I am excited to hear you say there is some nice scenic roads.

My wife & I are doing a 100 mile tour around Lake Michigan in June. It starts in DT Chgo, rides around and even over the lake, up and over to New Buffalo MI. Im really excited to video that ride and the scenery we will experience.

Loved that this video faced backwards as so many of the videos are facing forward. Very cool.

With that said, I realize that facing backwards is probably only a good idea when there are lots of riders behind you. Otherwise it would have been less interesting :)

How'd your day go? Do you have the team color EVO, I'm pretty sure I went by you at one point. We were hustling, finished the century in 5 hours.

Thanks, I worked a little harder that day to make sure i got some footage. :)

Just got me a GoPro Hero2 for cheap. Set up the helmet mount at too low of an angle for an aero tucked descent position, with my head pointed down-this is the result, a frame full of road. Ruined what would have been a sweet video otherwise. Back to the drawing board...
