Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

c40

I ride Specialized Tarmac but today my friend gave me Colnago C40 bike which he's not using. It is a frigging dream to ride. I just can't believe how nice C40 feels.

Never ride a bike you do not intend to buy.

This one I can ride as long as I want, because it is not being used otherwise. If anything happens I have enough funds to cover.

Right. Never take a new bike for a test ride until after you've made the decision to buy it.

I think he meant never ride a bike that's way out of your price range. No need to lust after something you can't have.

I wish I had a friend who would just give me a Colnago. Congrats.

So when does my 'new' Tarmac arrive?

I would never buy a bike until I had a chance to test ride it, but yes now I think I'm going to buy C40 frame. They're still being sold here in Toronto.

It is expensive but I can buy it. But first I gonna ride it for a while until I make sure it is not an "excitement factor" and compare it back yo Tarmac. If it still feels the same way I'll buy me C40 frame.

I owned two C-40 frames. I sold my last one back in 2004. They were nice bikes, but my current LOOK 585s actually ride better and the steering is a bit quicker. That's a trademark of Colnago - lots of steering trail and the resulting slow steering.

Steering is quicker on my Tarmac for sure and if I were racing I'd take it into account.
