Carbon Saddle Rails?
I like the Selle Italia Turbomatic but it only comes with carbon rails.
I'm 6'3'' and 195 to 200 lbs.
Would I be able to count on carbon rails not to break?
I would like the seat to last especially if I spend $150+ on it.

lets hope those engineers thought about the heavier guys lol. otherwise thered be alot of broken saddle rails out there

I think you had to use specific seatposts that have larger and taller clamp surfaces for saddles with carbon rails.

Considering no one actually answered your question, I don't see a problem. Do you bend Aluminum rails? Probably not. Carbon is a lot tougher than most people think. Just think light.

The biggest key with oval rails is to use a seatpost that doesn't have side clamps (or get the adapter for it)

My current seatpost clamps the rails from top to bottom but I'm not sure the chanels where the rails fit would be wide enough for the carbon rails.

Thanks for your e-mail.
Turbomatic is only available with carbon rail but be sure that its rail is absolutely reliable. We test all the rails with 150 Kg tests so your 90 kg are not too much.
Just be sure that the seatpost is able to accept an oversize rail, since the carbon rail is oval.

Stock S-Works Pave [single bolt] for the C64 on my Tarmac and a stock Aero Campy Record on the tandem [SLR]. If anything I do not like is the fact the S-Works seatpost does not hold its angle adjustment.

You should be okay. I'm 195 and using the Antares carbon. No creaks or snapping so I figure I'm good. My first pothole will be the big decider. GL

There are some places where the use of carbon doesn't make sense to me. Saddle rails would be one of these places.
There are other similar saddles out there with alloy rails.

Titanium and Vanox are durable, no significant weight penalty. On potholes, pavement buckles and significant expansion-joint "dips", it's smart to unweight off your saddle to reduce shock forces on your bike and body. You sometimes get surprised and can't do it, crap!, but if you develop riding routes that you get familiar with, and learn where the hazards are, you learn to go around them, or unweight.
