Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was going to post this also. My local store honored it even though it says phone and online only.

given that you can ship your online order free to the store, it would be kind of a silly hoop to make you jump through.

Not for wheelsets, it costs $12 to ship it to the store. I'm going there after work to see if they have what I need & if they'll give me the phone/internet price.

Yes, but as above some items are large and you still have to pay shipping for ship to store.

It seems that my local PB shop prefers we buy from them, somehow they get "credit" for those sales but not so the online sales.

I sometimes feel bad for the folks who go to PB and just pay the sticker price....generally the sale price online is less, and you can get even more off with these sales plus points.

I mentioned it in another thread....but they carry Assos and some other higher brands now. So when these 20% sales hit, they are as cheap as the UK dealers for that sort of thing.

And if you call in the next 20 minutes ..........

Performance & Nashbar have these "sales" every couple of weeks.

Thanks -- I've been holding off on buying some stuff just waiting for the next sale to come along. Everything I got was on "sale" with a little red discounted price shown, got another 15% off two jersey's since I bought two pairs of shorts, then 20% off of that.

And I even controlled myself and pulled over $100 worth of merchandise out of the cart before putting in my credit card number.

From a business standpoint, I do sometimes feel sorry for the stores as it seems that they have to compete with the online and phone business. I don't know how it effects their bottom line but based on general comments I've heard from managers at PB, I get the feeling that it does. But as a customer, I feel like Performance Bike is the same store whether on the web or built of brick. So I always print out online offers and item prices before going into the store --- I've never had an issue getting the store to match the price.

Actually looking at the website i noticed that the 2010 fuji sst 1.0 full dura ace is 6.500 dollars??? wonder who with 7 grands (including taxes and other craps people buy the same day) will buy a fuji instead of a pinarello or something else. Dont judge me but i believe the price it is way to high for the type of market performance is focused.

The bike looks sick, but 6500 dols? no... 3500 to 4000 maybe.

Eh...5 out of the six things I was looking for are excluded from the sale. I'll stick with Jenson, or Tree Fort Bikes.

I hit one of these up a few months ago in store. They said they will always honor it, but I had purchased a membership as well because the manager said he would give me an additional 10% off. Of course I went in there when I was broke, but I loaded up on gels, bars, chamois creme, socks, lube, degreaser, a couple of tools.

This is hilarious - I bought the Ultegra SPD-SL pedals when they were $99 two weeks, but got 10% off for only $89. Now that its 20% off they have the price set to 130 which comes out to $104... Isn't that illegal?

P.S.... thats just a side note - I personally wouldn't ***** about saving only 46% off instead of 49%.

for the record, this sale is 20% off the items that were already 20% off. Pretty good deal actually.

I'm just saying, 45% off is better than 20% off of 30% off - its the suspicious timing that I was questioning as being wee bit illegal, but I really don't know....

I was going to argue with you that fuji makes a nice bike, etc, etc, but for $6500 I can get a bike, and race reg fees + tubes, tires, kits and still have $$ to spare.

the sst is a sweet frame, though

I love the local Performance bike for discount stuff. If it's something they have in the store, it seems like a no-brainer to buy stuff there. They will match any online price (theirs or competitors) and have a 90 day price match and seem happy to do it (vs. making me feel cheap for asking for a price match). The 10% back in store credit makes up for the tax I have to pay (vs. online) and you get their no-questions asked 100% money back guarantee. For many items, i think they are a great alternative to buying on the net.

My #1 rule for shopping at Performance--don't buy anything there that's not on sale.

$4k for Dura Ace? Just because it's a Fuji?
