Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

best cranks for power...

I am thinking about getting a new crankset, and was wondering which is better for power transfer and stiffness.

Dura-Ace or FSA team carbon?

FSA is lighter by 50 grams, but is it just as stiff for better power transfer than DA? Who has used these to really know? Thanks

FSA cranks are notoriously stiff, used by pro riders...so are Dura Ace...so are Campy records...at the price point you are talking about, you (unless you are Gord Fraser, and if you are, "dude, you are fast!!!") will not be able to tell the difference in stiffness. buy what you like at the price you like.

Dura-Ace is the stiffest crank I have ever used. I think more than FSA. My 2 cents.

about a year ago, I think velonews or some other cycling mag did a test...the new da crank was stiffer by a lot! remember the new design is a hollow tube crankarm and the arm dia is larger than the tranditional design. and its not only the arms, the bb design is completely new, with the bearings out board of the frame.

Wasn't there a thread recently about a stress test involving Dura Ace and Ritchey WCS where Ritchey came out stiffer? That played a part in me buying a set of Ritchey cranks recently. I believe the test was done "off the bike." On a bicycle I'd guess the Dura Ace would come out on top because of the integrated BB and it's outboard bearings.

I can't find that thread. Anyone?
