Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need Some Help with a Road Bike...Kestrel Talon SL

I normally post in the Clyde Section, but I thought I would get more opinions here since my question is not Clyde specific. I am riding for fitness and have a new Trek 7300 I am riding. I have been considering upgrading to a road bike. My question is, I have acquired a 2004 Kestrel Talon SL Road Ultegra Triple with Spinergy Aero Rims. It supposedly only has 800 or so miles, but it looks like it may have more. It has some scuffs and scratches/scrapes on the frame and components, needs a new saddle, handlebar tape and a tune up. It doesn't seem like anything major is wrong with the bike and the integrity of the carbon fiber frame seems fine. The scrapes/scratches are all on the surface. Is it worth putting money into this bike or should I scrap this project and consider a different road bike? I know the bike originally was on the expensive side(or at least out of my range) and is not a beginner road bike at all. I took it on a short test ride and the bike rides so nicely...smooth(minus the gears right now), fast and it takes almost no effort to pedal and maintain 20mph.

I don't have much knowledge about biking in general and especially road biking...so any information you can give me would be great. I read some of the older posts on carbon fiber frames and people's opinions and now I am more confused than before.

Thanks,
Matt
