Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

how many miles for tires?

Anyone know the life expectancy (# of miles) for the tires that came with my Specialized Roubaix? These are the tires that came with the bike. How many miles can I count on getting from them?

Last year I had five flats and a final blowout on my rear tire in the first 1800 miles on my Roubaix. Replaced it with Armadillos on the rear. Have lasted about 4K miles each with no flats in 20K miles. Front OEM went about 3500 miles. I replaced it with Gatorskins - no flats since. On the front, the Gatorskins go over 10K miles. The OEM tires were rock magnets, which led to all the flats.

Front tires will typically last twice as long as rears.

Bikes: Specialized.... schwinn..... enough to fill my needs..

When my rear tires shows cord... anywhere from 1800-2500 on GP4000's. I always put the new rubber on the front and move the front to the rear. It's a little more work doing this but I want the best grip up front. I never replace them both at the same time.
