looking for suggestions for a good set of platform pedals for cruising around town. Most likely will be wearing running shoes when using them.

You can stand on Look/SPD-SL style pedals pretty easily wearing sneakers. Contrary to what Dr. Phil and Oprah may say, IMAGE IS EVERYTHING.

If you use spd pedals, they make a 'flip/flop' pedal with platform on one side, spd clips on the other. It's cheap, and convenient for short trips to the store and such. Shimano model pd m324.

I just put Shimano M324 pedals on my bike. Mtb style SPD clips on one side, platforms on the other.

If you know you do not want clips, then any platforms will work. Before I got my cool Shimano dual pedals, I had a set of the cheapest plastic pedals I could find at the LBS.

SPD-SL + regular shoes = platform pedal.

MKS Sylvan touring pedals - work great with toe clips but you don't need them.
Extra width for wide sneakers. Narrower pedals can be uncomfortable.
Note, no MTB type "teeth" on the contact edges... also uncomfortable.

Just discovered the Speedplay Platformer. Sounds like that will solve my problem since i use Speedplay Zeros. Anyone knows how if they are any good?

The MKS looks like a good choice, too. Are they heavy?

There was a not too complimentary thread about the Platformers recently. But what's wrong with the cheap plastic platforms at your LBS or, even, Wal*Mart?

More slippage. No grip at all. Especially when wet.

I like my Wellgo pedals that came off my mountain bike. It's got a big platform that's grippy. I transferred them to my commuter.

If you're looking for a two in one pedal, you can get spd with the platform attachment. I know Performancebike makes a "campus" pedal which is flat on side, and spd on the other. I've ridden on look style pedals in flip flops. It works fine if you're careful, but if it's rainy or wet they get slick.

These ought to hold your feet, pretty good.

The bike I use for mtb trails has square caged pedals with teeth like those. I had an incident a couple of weeks ago where a simple slide out was made worse, when I couldn't get one foot off the pedal.

I got some Shimano A530 Dual Platforms last week and love them thus far. Very high quality, good looks, and the platform is big enough to be comfortable.

i'm using the velo orange VO city pedals and their half clips. be sure to get the toe leathers so you don't fk up your shoes.

works ok, but i find myself pulling out of them if i'm pushing hard.

speedplays are in my near future.

Speedplay flatformers are nice. just be careful, they aren't that grippy.
