Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Source of Motivation

When the last bit of energy starts to evaporate, how do you keep yourself motivated. What is your source of motivation? Do you have anything in particular that drives you to keep going on and on.

In the Arizona desert it's starting to get warm and I know what you mean.
I got up at 3AM, got home at 10:30 and it was 97 degrees. Next week it's
going to warm up. 107 to 110 degrees. I can hardly wait.

5 year cancer survivor come July 14th. When I fell like some particular interval, climb, or long ride is tough.....all I have to do is think about taking chemo every two weeks for 10 months. You get motivated real quick. Chemo flat out SUCKS!

The fact that I'm out in the middle of nowhere with no way to get home but my own legs.

What drives me? My perfect, undefeated record. I have never let another biker pass me and never will. Even if the guy's driving his car with his bike on the roof, I'll will sprint to beat him before the next light.

Hell, if a biker waves (or worse yet, nods) at me when passing in the opposite direction, I will immediately make a U-turn (regardless of traffic) and sprint to beat him before the next light.

Speaking of survival, you should really talk to your doctor about a prostate exam.

Motivation....

I never have a relaxed ride, so my motivation is smashing souls... really why else?
