Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know if it was on last night. I was at the pub at 5pm (as you do on a Friday) and forgot to set a tape.

Even Sky's email service was wrong telling me twice it would be on.

Yup! Amazed that I've been recognized! Didn't think that I posted there much at all, also used to post to the tap which is where I get most people knowing me from. So if you have a runner hiding inside you....

(and back in the days I used to be a bit of forum ***** and post to heap of other random forums, but now for quite a while I've mainly just cut back to "the nothing forum" (place I've been posting to for years and years and years....) and from time to time cyclingnz (and more recently here))

I post to a triathlon forum?! That is news to me, although I possibly have sometime way back in the past. Or do you mean the triathlon forum at bikeforums.net? Oh yeah, I've done that from time to time. Is that a bad thing?! Because I'm really a triathlete...

It's not a bad thing as long as you follow the triathlete's anonymous programme:

e.g. 'Hi, my names "mathmo" and I'm a triathlete. It's been three days since I swam, biked and ran...'

lol, well I've been too lazy to be doing any running for a long time. And I'm too cheap to pay the entry fees for swimming pools. However... it has only been about an hour since I was last on my bike!

ajst2duk - K2, maybe around Lake Rotorua, and for sure I'm doing around Taupo! Might make a day trip of Rotorua, and there is another 80k ride that weekend so I might get in 2 days back to back of 80k races... hmmm HAMMER THEM THERE LEGS!

I've been wondering about doing the enduro, I'll see how my (non) training is going closer to that date. Probably the time will just fly by, but perhaps I shall go down. Anybody here done the enduro??

I'm doing all three.

I just hope I've gotten enough hill training in for K2 otherwise I'll be in the hurt box on the last couple of hills.

Just one more short ride on Thursday and maybe a short spin on Friday when I get to Whitianga before K2.

I don't think I'll ever be tempted to do an enduro. I have a cousin that does it each year and apparently the night time riding is just dire, about 4 hours with nothing but what your headlight is illuminating to concentrate on.

I'd rather do an ironman if I'm ever feeling that nutty.

Used to do a lot of night riding, however.... that was in auckland with plenty of street lamps. i'd worry about doing that out in the middle of nowhere.

I've already felt nutty enough for an Ironman!

I want to at least do the ride comfortably in 13 hours or so (6.5 for first lap and 6 for the second with the other riders with .5 for change.) so yes fitness would be a key element for an enduro for me.

IRONMAN - I've often thought about it and I have a long term goal of actually completing the NZ one, and if I am nutty enough, do the NORSEMAN XTREME TRIATHLON - basically after you get out of the water it's all uphill from there. Norway or somewhere!

I'll up the challenge to you Lindsay - Let's do IMNZ? by the time you are 50

Oh, you actually want to do it somewhat quickly. As for me, I'm just slow! And the reason for that is very close to nt worry about my fitness. Althugh I should really be working out some training to be doing.

Is in norway (I'm over a quarter norwegian! Surname is also norwegian too), www.nxtri.com

wow, it certainly is very extreme! Pity it is so far away, would cost a bundle to go over there. Otherwise I'd consider giving it a go.

Was won this year by Bjørn Andersson, a guy who is often down in NZ.

I can't claim Norwegian, but how's Danish?

3/4 real kiwi joker, 1/4 pastry. Although the cycling has changed that ratio
