Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't either, but I don't think that means the seller was "FOS" if they said it was raced 1000 miles.

I agree with that.

Except that the probability of crashing is considerably higher while racing.

FWIW, I've seen more crashes on training rides than races.

You probably train more than you race.

I recommend anyone riding a used carbon frame send it to me immediately so I can dispose of it safely.

That may be true (and irrelevant) but you still train more than you race which explains why you may have seen more crashes while training vs racing.

Unless you race a lot, how can you say that more crashes happen in races?

That being said, even if the percentage is higher, how can you attribute that to the fact that it is a race as opposed to simply a large group of people riding together? It just so happens that most races are far larger groups than most training rides. More riders = more crashes.

I've seen cracks in aluminum, titanium, carbon frames...and steel frames.

Really? I've only seen one crash on a training ride. Ever. I've seen 6 crashes in the 4 crits I've raced in the last two weeks.

That's why I put FWIW, there are a lot of variables. I've only seen 2 crashes in races this season (that I can remember), and I've seen probably 5-6 on training rides.

I would assume that means rode it 1,000 miles and raced on it during that time. Not 1,000 miles of racing. Who tracks race mileage anyway?

I would agree. Although I seem to see worse crashes on training rides than I do in races.
