to be buzzed and to be not buzzed
 

So i just got home from a ride and some very interesting things happened to me.

1. I was buzzed by a ****** bag on a crotch rocket. He rolled up on me in neutral on the white line, about a foot between us and as i looked over cause i saw his front tire, he nailed it into gear and took off in a wheelie. Then he slowed down only to block me and i had to brake to not hit him, took off and was gone. His plated were bent up under the rear wheel so you could not see it.

Seriously of all people you would think someone on a motorcycle would understand the dangers of doing something like that and riding on the road.

2. Big old tractor trailer comes up from behind me and at about 500 feet out he hits his horn 3 times, slows down to about 30mph, crosses over the yellow line, passes me, waves and blows horn again. Every car behind him follows suit.

The tractor trailer incident happened second so at least i finished my ride in a good mood!!!!

I don't know some of the motorcycle riders on "crotch rockets" are stupid, young, ******bags...

I hate it when people honk. I realize that they think they're doing us a favor by letting know they're passing (sometimes), but it's pretty distracting. I hate it when people let their dogs hang their heads out the window and they bark at me as they pass.

i know i almost always jump clear off of my saddle when someone honks. it scares the **** out of me.

The truck didn't bother me cause he was pretty far when he did the first honks and I just looked back and could tell he was being nice. When people honk and they are up close it's a different story. I already know you are there, I can hear your car.

I've been getting buzzed by tons of motorcycles lately (at least 1/3 of them), but every single one that buzzed me was a Harley style bike, and usually the bike was in a group of two or more bikers.

*sigh* it's always cars for me... like it's SO EFFING DIFFICULT to make a little room... doesn't even slow them down from reaching their destination. Oy.

I'm kind of fond of bike paths lately... mostly because there are no traffic control devices and you can just keep going, and going... etc.

Is there any chance you're riding near the center of the lane?
I'd never, ever suggest that it isn't your gawdgiven right to do so, but sometimes it encourages the reckless, irresponsible, murderous, etc. behavior you described. :)

I was in the center of the designated bike lane. road I was on had a shoulder that was about 1.5-2ft wide, It was a tight 1/4 mile stretch.

I was biking up in the mountains last weekend. Crested a hill, motorcycle blew by me on the left, plenty of space no worries.

I moved into the descent, ~40mph. Caught up with the motorcyclist who was stuck behind some slow moving SUV's. So there I was on the right side of the lane riding my brakes. He was in the left, I imagine just in a low gear. Had a nice little chat screaming over the roar of his bike about how 4 wheeled vehicles suck ;-)

i find it's the opposite. if i ride close to the shoulder or on the white line, every single truck or car thinks it can fit in the lane with me. even if a mirror has to hit me to do so. if i ride closer to the middle than to the white line, the cars simply go around me giving me more space.

That's super. I wish I lived in Florida, where the auto drivers are world-renowned for their courtesy, alertness, capitalization, and safety. ;)

your sarcasm makes no sense. the whole point of what i do is to protect myself from the idiot drivers.

I drove a truck over the road for a bit and I always gave that warning way back. I'm happy to know it could be received as I meant it. I also laid on it long and loud as I was approaching an overpass of an Interstate and I saw bikers on the span.

If some body would have given me the sign they wanted a draft as I passed I would have slowed to a crawl.

As for cars that honk, I just wave to all of them. It satisfies those who are honking for nice reasons, and just confuses those that are honking in anger.

Interesting,,,Couple weeks ago I had a dirtbag on a motorcycle buzz me within 6 inches, on a nice wide residential street with no other traffic,,,I was so suprised I didnt even call him on it...Bud

I find the worst buzzers in my arrea are plumbers and other small contractors. the most courteous are lanscape crews with their mini dump trucks hauling a trailer of mowers. they're probably afraid of getting in trouble with imigration.

I went out & rode a hundred today,

Felt pretty good about myself fot that, so had a couple of cocktails to celebrate...got buzzed. Then I read my emails & realised it was team group ride night, so went out for another 30 miles. I was pert hammered at the end of that!

Yup I should have asked him how fast he was going so I could check my computer.

Guys like you rock! I was riding on a two lane county road towards Princeton, NJ a few weeks ago and I hear a semi honk quite a ways behind me. I knew exactly what he was telling me - big truck behind you, get ready for a little wind. I REALLY wish we could all just get along. I'm always aware of the vagaries of semi's when I'm driving on interstates. I try not to get in their way, and expect them to drive professionally. But over the last few years, it seems like the level of professionalism of semi drivers has really gone down hill (metaphorically speaking, of course). If all of us had an opportunity to drive/ride everything from big rigs to bikes, I think the roads would be a much safer place.

Sarcasm? What sarcasm? ;) Riding in center-mass of the path of (as you call them, not me) idiot drivers sounds like a perfectly reasonable and courteous manner to compel these reckless, irresponsible, and murderous motorists into seeing the error of their way. ;) I completely support you in this endeavor and wish you a long & prosperous life. ;)

I've got no problem having a party with Jack Johnson and Tom O'leary. Try it sometime, you'll feel like a caveman.

This should make you feel better, and hopefully later on I can grab some pictures. A kid down the street just bought a brand new crotch rocket. I have to admit I hate them, but his looked really sharp. Well, his first ride out, he was turning around in the street, hit the throttle to hard, slinging him back a little, therefor causing him to throttle even more, until the bike launched from beneath him and went a good 50 feet down the street tumbling. The bike is totaled, he is rashed, and his ego is gone! I will wait for him to get home from the hospital, pull his bike out to look at it, then go and stand in front of his house to take pictures so he knows I am doing it. Then laugh as loud as I can and point!

While I agree with this sentiment, I'm more worried about getting hit by the careless driver who's not watching the road and doesn't see you. Hence why I stay as far right as possible even thought it may encourage the occasional buzz.

I agree with SkinnyLegs. It's the people not paying attention that I worry about. My motto is: everybody stay on their own side of the white line, and I'm happy.

Lightly traveled rural roads with no shoulders are a different situation. There, my position on the road all depends on the circumstances, though I tend to stay far right for similar reasons. I've developed the habit of glancing over my shoulder when there are only occasional cars approaching from behind--to make sure they're not in a trajectory that's going to hit me. I figure I've got time to go ditch diving if they are.
