Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No power in right leg (Sciatica??)

I currently have an issue where I am continually unable to push with my right leg. It gets sore but not in a muscular fatigue way and when I get off the bike my legs feel quite fresh as I am unable to use my right leg properly. It feels like I have a lot of tightness in my right calf and, for want of a better expression, it feels like my right leg is kind of twisted. I believe it may have something to do with my piriformis muscle and sciatica however I am uncertain. Has anybody experienced this issue and, if so, how did you go about resolving it? I also believe that this could potentially be the result of using the wrong shaped seat, i have tried adjusting the seat angle, tilting the front of the seat both up and down slightly to see the effect. When i tilted the front of the seat slightly up I lost power in my legs altogether and could hardly pedal. Tilting the seat back down eased the problem but it has not gone away. I have also tried moving the seat back and forward. Has anybody had issues with the shape/size of their seat causing problems?

Thanks

Go see a doctor that specializes in sports medicine. Or a physiotherapist that does the same. Or both.

I would advise you to get off the internets and go to the doctor. Have the doctor check you for common sense too.

Yeah, you really don't want to mess around with potential nerve issues. If a qualified doc can rule out those problems, then start worrying about your saddle.

Bikes: See sig.

Maybe one of those saddles that doesn't have the "front" part would be what you need? I remember seeing these a while ago...looks like two "sponges" for where your sitbones go.
