Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Junior Gearing Question

Hi,

Does anyone know if I will be able to pass rollout at a Juniors race using a 53 t crankset and a 15 T cassette ring?

Thanks,
Arden

He is correct. This is why:

Go here www.sheldonbrown.com

Go to Gears and drivetrain, then to gear calculator.

Put in all the info, including a 53 front chainring and a 15 tooth cog and choose gear inches. Then it will give you the number 92.9. Take this and multiply it by Pi, or 3.14 . Then divide it by twelve. Your configuration will give you 24.3 feet rollout. It needs to be under 26.

You might be able to get by with a 14. It would give 99.5 gear inches. Then, 99.5 x 3.14 = 312.43 . . . . 312.43/12=26.035

Now, I mean... You might be able to work that.

Thanks so much for all the help! Not blocking out gears will be really nice!
