Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Landis' book

Just thought it was interesting, what with the sensationalist WSJ article that's going around...

Maybe the $0.90 ones are the ones he autographed, and the $6 collectible one is the one he didn't.

Popularly released books, especially non fiction topical types, generally don't hold their value.

Well, I remember seeing that book on the closeout shelves for $1 or so shortly after it was released. I think it was a bust from the get-go; it didn't fail to hold it's value so much as it failed to develop any. It's probably worth more now than it was 6 months ago.

Of course that's not applicable in this case...

Landis now says that everything in that book was a big fat lie. Or maybe the book was true and what he's saying now is a big fat lie. I'm not giving him any more money and I'm never going to believe him again.

When he said, "It's not about the bike," he should have had added that it *is* about the bike if the team needs to sell something to raise cash in a hurry.

From the WSJ:

"Robert Burns, Trek's general counsel, said in an interview that the company was aware that bikes meant for U.S. Postal riders were being sold, but said it didn't know what the money was used for. "Occasionally, you'd see a bike on the Internet somewhere where it would surprise us," he said. "We didn't want to see that stuff getting sold on the market. It should be going to a better use than that." "

Given Floyd's upbringing, I think it has to be Harrison Ford.

I know you will find this stunning, but this is a pretty common practice.

Thanks for playing.
