Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Flipped off my bike today.

So i was riding on a paved bicycle path today. It was sunny and warm, perfect day. Everything was going good. Pretty girls everywhere and such. I saw this one particular girl on a bike ahead of me as i was passing others. I was going that fast or anything, i guess i was going a faster pace. Anyway, so i was like oh cool, shes really pretty, and rides too. she had this old skool style helmet on, one of those leather ones that look like a old football helmet. So I passed her after a like a min of kinda following her. I continued to go on my own way towards the break off point on the path, and i was turning left. I didn't know how fast i was going, but there was a slight incline onto the path i was going.

Next thing i knew i flipped over and was sitting on the ground. Scrapped my left forearm. My right elbow probably took a hard hit on the floor. I wasn't wear gloves so ya, my hands were scrapped. My pedal caught the slope as i was curving up. I sat there for like 10 seconds kinda looking at my bike and was not really paying attention to the people around me, till that pretty girl came up to me and helped me up.

She immediately asked if i was okay, and i was like ya, but my bike isn't. LoL my handle bar went out of line, and my right shifter got scratched and was pushed out of line too, my carbon fork has a light scratch but nothing too serious for me to need a replacement.

I'm pissed at myself, but i think that girl made the whole fall turn out not so bad. Unfortunately, with my luck with girls, after she made sure i was okay, she just smiled and told me to take care and biked off... Ahaha I feel like a total loser now. I headed towards the closest bike shot and got my Caad lined up again, and biked home. I checked my left petal, and a piece was missing. Luckily i had some wellgo and not my clipless yet.

Why are you giving your bike the finger?

Oh. Sorry, from the title of the post, you know, I thought...

and not fixing the bike yourself. Its not a big deal to straighten the handlebars and the brifter.

I don't know what's worse--what you did (and didn't do), or posting it on the Internet.

Sheesh.

Was one of the first thoughts you had post-crash "I'm going to post this on Bike Forums"?

You failed mate. Several different ways. You came home without the girl and with a messed up bike.

By the way... The thread title, first thing I thought of was you flipping the finger to your bike. Whatever.

You guys are cold. The guy crashed, was trying to vent with what he thought were like-minded cyclists, and you rub salt on his wounds.

So nobody in here has ever crashed on a bike before? Never made a mistake?

Sometimes, you can be doing everything right and boom! You crash. Happened to me on a motorcycle. You just never know....

Ouch, heh, one time I almost fell after passing a pretty girl, it was pretty bad. I just avoided eye contact and sped away fast as I could.

Next time this happens, make it look as horrible as possible, and pretend to be in excruciating pain, maybe a few manly grunts as you drag yourself to your feet. Then pretend you need help getting home, because you're just that messed up from the fall. I'm sure you can fill in the rest

And yeah, what Palo said! Jeez guys have a heart! Just because you're old, creaky, and bitter doesn't mean he can't have a chance at a happy life filled with women! His "mistakes" sound very close to what I would have done...

Those get embarassing.

I was skating back after a roller hockey game - I was tired after the game, so I was coasting slightly bent over, with my stick and my hands on my knees. Two cute girls came out of Starbucks near Dupont Circle in DC and we made eye contact - I looked at them and smiled, just as my skate well hit a tiny (read: invisible to non-skaters) crack, got wedged in it and caused me to faceplant on the kerb. To the onlooker, it must have appeared as though I spontaneously fell on my face.

My face hurt as did my pride on hearing the 2 girls giggling a little as they walked by. They didnt even stop to ask if I was ok, so OP, you came out a little ahead

V.

I only flip off my bike when it decides to throw a chain right through the chaincatcher or throw the chain when shifting from the small to middle chainring, myself.

Ha ha thanks guys. The post title did seem odd when i finished it. And ya, i screwed up big time, and i didn't care too much as what you guys would say. Thought it would be funny to post what happened. Everybody falls and fails at times. I guess some people are too ashamed to really tell others. And some people just shrug it off.

p.s. I'm new to the form so thanks for the welcome guys haha.
