Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

please offer some insight on this purchase. this is my first road bike, do you think it's worth the money? i'm paying 500 + shipping. i'm not trying to compete or anything, just using it to get around town.

Before you plunk down any cash for a bike (that auction ended), make sure it fits.

This is your first bike, so I highly recommend not buying one off eBay or craigslist. Go to your LBS, get sized up, and see what they have in stock.

thanks. the LBS is pretty expensive, and only one of their bikes fits my budget. i'm 6'3 and this bike is 58cm i believe. am i able to judge from that whether it would fit or not, or is it more complicated than that?

thanks again.

It's a lot more complicated than that.

I would not feel confident buying any bike for any amount if I have not ridden it, or at least seen it in person first.

For your first major bike purchase you really should buy from an LBS. If they don't stock anything that fits your budget, then maybe they can order you the bike that will fit your means.
