Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

P3C for $1200 on Ebay. Scam?

I know. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. A new 2008 Cervelo P3C for $1200 shipped. Zipp Z
Zipp wheels, Sram set up. Comes from Europe. The guy has 385 comments and only one is negative.

I don't know a lot about eBay amd am a natural born skeptic. I assume this is a scam and has been around in different forms for a while. But how does a guy get that many good comments? What am I missing here.
Any experienced thoughts would be appreciated.

I heard that people create hundreds of fake accounts, auction items off, "sell" them to the fake accounts and give themselves positive ratings. One individual claims that throwing a neutral or bad review occasionally makes it look more "real".

Ebay is the most dishonest place in the ether.

Its a two year old bike, and the euro to dollar exchange rate is awesome...it's probably not a scam.

Link ? I don't see one for $1200

If the account looks good, it may have been hijacked, so it was good until a few days ago.

Personally, I wouldn't buy anything off Ebay worth more than I was willing to lose if I got scammed. So ~$500 maybe.

Dude, I have an eBay rule. Call me an elitist bastard, an arrogant pig, or a college-educated know-it-all, but if the person I am buying from can't put together basic sentence structure and have at least a 3rd grade command of the English language I ain't buying nothing from them. This stuff is the reddest of flags for me.

Oh, any grammar or punctuation errors in the above is purely intentional.

That's an obvious scam .... you shouldn't need to ask. You should report them to Ebay. Click "Report Item" (I just did)

Account was most likely hijacked by a phishing scam and the sucker giving out the password ... or a fake account as suggested due to all the "private" sales.

Two year old used Zipp wheels are worth close to $1200. Total scam. Run away.

I have bought and sold lots of stuff on Ebay. If you use Paypal, you are insured. I have seen auctions wonn't accept Paypal and I would never participate in those.

Well I assumed it was a scam. But like I said I don't do much of anything on eBay so I was more curious how it worked.

I looked over the ad and it doesn't smell right. Anyone want to estimate how much it would cost to go into your local bike shop and buy this bike? The ZIPP wheels alone are over $1200.

He is accepting Paypay which seem strange since they gurantee the transaction. This doesn't mean that it isnt' a scam, it means that Paypal will take it in the shorts., but it does mean NO BIKE.

I may send him an email just to see if he will replay and what the scam is.
