Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My good jersey says I should hand wash it in cold water. Whatever!! I don't hand wash anything anymore. Besides which, cold water just won't do the job for my nasty sweaty jersey! So...I throw it in the machine on the gentle cycle with warm water. Do people really hand wash their jerseys? Do you? Do you use a special gentle soap like Woolite or just good old Tide?

Cold water, gentle cycle, hang dry. Warm prolly will not hurt. I think the drier does the most damage...

I have jerseys from 1987....

Yeah, I've seen that note about hand washing on the label. What I generally do is to hand wash the jersey and shorts when I'm in the shower following a ride. Every couple of rides, I end up tossing them into the regular wash but I do try to grab them out of there and let them hang dry.

I just machine wash in cold and hang dry. I hand washed 2 times and say to heck with that. I just use the same detergent as our normal clothes.

Never thought I would be talking laundry with a Cycleprincess. For all my gear, Tide, cold water, reg cycle then hang to dry.. life is way to short to hand wash. The stuff made in Europe there is something to be said for hand washing as the mach over there take 90 minutes and you can hand wash it faster if your traveling.

Cheers

I wash my cycling clothes all togther on the permanent press cycle, warm water. I throw in a cup or so of baking soda for odor control. Then I tumble dry them with low heat for 15 minutes, then with just air until everything's dry. I'll throw in some bath towels to help speed the process. I've been doing it this way for about 5 years now, and everything is still holding up well.

like a lot of others here, I throw it all in the washer with cold water on the gentle cycle, and then hang it up to dry. Seems to work like a charm.

I found that drying is a big no-no. My old shorts degraded much faster than the ones that I air dry now. I just throw them in the washing machine, cold, regular detergent, air dry. I also wash my gloves the same way.

I throw jersey and shorts into my sink full of warm soapy water, swish it around, let it soak, then when I'm in the shower, I rinse it off with me and hang dry. It seems to be working ok so far.

Machine wash gentle, hang dry - everything nylon/lycra/hi-tech fabric drys fast and don't like what heat does to elastic over time. If you're really concerned, buy a mesh bag for washing delicates to prevent the agitation from bashing/stretching your expensive gear, this way, only the bag gets bashed/stretched.

Definitely machine wash in cold and hang dry. Drying in the dryer will cause the material to start pilling (material starts to have knots appear from drying).

As coolmax and similiar material are 100% spun polyester that will melt, which is why drying in a DRYER NEVER SUGGESTED.

i just come home, and step into the shower without undressing, unzip the jersey, pour a little shampoo in there, spread it around and zip the jersey up. pour some shampoo into the shorts, do a dance here and there. same with the socks. then i just take it off, rinse off, rinse off my clothes, and hang dry them. ready for use the next day

I followed instructions for a couple of years. I have a half dozen jerseys and almost that many shorts. Now, they all goe in the washer and the dryer with everything else. I haven't noticed any accelerated deterioration.
