So it sounds like they are constantly sending shills over here to promote their website and bikes. Lame, obviously, but I wondered if any non-shills had any experience with the bikes themselves.

Are they a corner-cutting outfit? Is this a similar bike, just without the LBS tax?

Full disclosure: I have a BD Motobecane cyclocross. It's better than anything Wally World sells, but well under the quality (and price) of your LBS (Local Boutique Shop).

I am not a shill at all but I think the fellow did a a good thing and loves his bike. I am thinking the Motorbecane Immortal Spirit is a good buy so tell me a better one.

I realize appearance is subjective, but that frame is probably the ugliest I've seen on a road bike in the last few years. I would rather buy one of their aluminum frames or one of their kestrel bikes.

That is the whole point. I couldn't find any difference between the bikes that I rode and the Motobecane. What I don't understand is why the other brands don't come closer to the price.

Really, this is very simple. Motobecane is not really a "brand" in the same sense as a Trek or Specialized; it's a "name" that was licensed by an in importer for his private label bikes.

Go compare the price of national brand groceries at your local supermarket vs. private label products as a discount store. Compare a name-brand shirt at a department store to a private label t-shirt at Wal-Mart.

Now go compare your Motobecane to other private label bicycles.

I am not a shill or selling the bike or anything like that but you can google Acceleration Physical Therapy in Spokane WA and see my clinic website. I was incorrect about the Shimano Ultegra, just the gears, shifters and such, but really there are a lot of angry bikers on this page, but I have not heard one real criticism of this bike. Find me a bike with full carbon and any Ultegra components for under $2000. As for economic theory, I think that when the interest rates are at the zero bound and you are in the middle of a liquidity trap, the only solution is to stimulate the economy with a devaluation of your currency and massive infrastructure projects.

I still don't understand how you act surprised at their prices. It just doesn't seem like you are genuinely surprised, because it is obvious to anyone who thinks about it for a bit how they achieve the prices they do.

The bike you just post Scattante 2010 is a nice bike however I bought a Bottecchia on ebay new. It has CF frame Ultegra rear and FD with Cane Creek brakes and Vuelta xrp wheels for $1040 including shipping. I have 3200 miles on the bike and have yet to true the wheels they are great although not top of line or light. Saddle I happen to like and tried a Bontrager for a week just for comparsion was not as nearly as good for my rear. Tires were ok but after 1500 miles I got a set of VRed Tri Comps and the original were fine for the 1500 at the beginning. It has a compact double this has a triple which I hate. This Scattante has a better crank set I will give ithat but the brakes are not as good. In any case I paid about 1/2 the price. I bought my first bike for BD and it was fine not issues and sold it a year later for $400 and paid about $625 for it. Nothing against LBS they are great but there are other options. My LBS has limit sizes and some stock but not huge amount. They are friendly and I do business with them when needed. They do have a much higher price for new bikes unless you buy out of season or some odd sale. On the internet many bike are available in in many sizes and options.

...because it costs real money to buy quality products from real brands with real cycling history. Stickers are cheap, in fact there is a guy selling Colnago stickers on eBay that you can slap onto a Walmark special. You now have a $5000 bike for $50...just think of the savings. Plus your real derailleur also says Shimano, but is placed a little crooked, however just compare with other similarly equipped bikes.....etc

What parts on the bike in particular suck? DScott- Well done getting to $2000, but I did pay $500 less with no sales tax, shipping, and it came with clipless pedals. I just don't get why everyone hates this brand without actually having a real beef with the components of the bike. Why the haters? One of the reasons that I posted this in the first place is that almost all of the forums had rants from folks like this one about how much they hated the company but had really nothing to say about the bike. Maybe you paid too much for your Trek or Specialized or Giant, I don't know. Maybe you hate the idea that there are people who make very little per day putting bikes together in countries that most of us have never been to. But, maybe you have fooled yourself into thinking that Trek, Specialized, and Giant don't have the same people working in the same factories, making the same frames, and then making a huge profit off of guys who need a bike that looks better than they can ride. Maybe I got a good deal and maybe I bought an inferior product, but after 300 miles it is running smoothly. All I can hope is that when people google Motobecane to try and find out why the bike is so inexpensive that they find this post, and know that there is a regular person who is happy with this product.
