Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If those hills could talk.(Florida version)

Now take deep breath,
as I am taking you on a journey into another dimension.
A place where imagination ends and reality sets in.
Place where hills never end.

FLORIDA

A young cyclist decides to go on his routine ride like he does every time he feel the fire in his legs. Route he has always taken. A bike he has always ridden. Hills.........,,, he has always climbed.

But little did he know, that this ride wasn't going to be like all the rest. CLICK ME

This time, things will take an unexpected turn.
This time, the hills will talk.

There are 3 miles to the top, and all of a sudden he starts feeling the boost in power. He thinks "wow I am awesome"

Feeling great, he nears the top, knowing that turning back and descending down that hill will be....., well,...... a breeze.

As he makes his turn to go back where he came from, he looks ahead and what he sees, he simply does not believe.

There is another hill.

Route he has always taken has just given him another hill and telepathically he heard the hill speak.

"So let me get this straight."

"Without thinking twice about it, you assumed that climbing to the top of this hill and turning back around automatically means that you will descend?"

"You don't have to answer that as I will do it for you."

"NOT THIS TIME"

.......................THE END..................

All the kidding aside, this really happened to me today.

It's called "DOUBLE HEADWIND BLUES" I believe.

They are called overpasses. Seriously though, Florida headwinds and crosswinds will make you wish for a climb.

90+ degrees and double headwind have an effect I guess.

I was born in Kansas and live in Oklahoma. I've experienced this thing you call wind before.

I imagine so. I've done races in Ohio on flat ground that I have prayed for a hill to miraculously show up.

Here in Stillwater its pretty rolling so I don't get alot of flat rides like I imagine you would in Ohio.

This is one of our training rides. The hills have alot of sections around 20%. Short but they get your heart rate up.

you couldn't be more right. I rode in the carolinas for a week and I'll take hills to wind any day of the week. You eventually reach the top of the hill. the wind never ends.

Looking at the elevation chart for your ride I assume you mean 2% instead of 20%.

Believe it or not--around the Tallahassee area, we have hills. I just returned from upstate New York and rode between Glens Falls and Saratoga Springs (20 miles, rode around Saratoga 10 miles and back to Glens falls--50 mile ride). I have more and bigger hills on a lot of my rides in Tallahassee. So there!

This is currently set at about 60 meters of total climb. We can't guarantee a great deal of accuracy for routes with ascents < 60m, so we don't want to confuse our users by displaying inaccurate data.
Like I said not long just steep. I wasn't trying to say we're all climbers here. Only that its not completely flat.

There are no hills in Florida. Highest point in the state is what, 17 feet above sea leval? LOL Now these are hills, Southern California style. This is about 14 miles uphill from the driveway. Nice hot but very clear day out yesterday.

Just depends on where you are. Go to Hocking Hills or even the Davis hill loop outside of Chillicothe....
