the tacx ones break easily. The specialized ones look decent, are relatively light, and are cheap. I'd suggest the specialized cage in white if money is an issue at all. If you don't care about money, Arundel makes the best cages out there.

arundel. no contest

I have them on the race bike and have their plastic cousins on the training bike.

Velo Gator 08-03-10 10:15 PM

Any opinions on the arundel plastic version?

I have these cages and, although very pretty to look at, are too flexible. Full bottles rattle around on rough roads. I've never had the bottle eject, but the fit is not as snug as I would like it. I also have the Elite Patao carbon - much better at holding a bottle (more snug fit). Although I have no experience with Arundel, the design looks very sound and would think that it would secure the bottle quite well.
Out of the cages you posted I'd opt for C.

Just think: after all this you still have to pick out the actual bottles!

they work as well as the carbon version, although they look nondescript and are heavier. The shape of these things makes it nearly impossible to launch a bottle from your bike.

Although I made the inital suggestion of those elite bottle holders because I have them, I did go into a bike shop 2 days after I had put them on my bike and only then saw these specialized ones. I liked the specialized ones more. The Elite have been very good though. Hold the bottles securely, no rattling, no flying bottles and easy to get the bottle in and out.

You really need help deciding on a water bottle cage? Really? I'd ask my significant other, "Does this water bottle cage make my butt look fat?" If you have a teenage daughter, you can ask her. She'll have an opinioin. If you don't, I'd offer mine, but she's still in bed.

In other news, I've discovered there is a Specialized store close to my office. Maybe I'll go look at the ones posted above.

Must not be noon yet.

Either that, or she hasn't come in from last night yet, and you only THINK she's still in bed. :innocent:

I have a White R3 and i went with the white and black Elite (just like C but black instead of Red)
Great cage, holds the bottle even over the bumpiest of roads and easy to get out.
One note, the inside of the cage has some black marks from inserting and removing the bottle.

I still prefer the white over any black cage and i can replace them a few times for the cost of a carbon cage.

Interesting. I switched to this cage because they came so highly recommended on BF. They feel quite secure to me, and I carry bottles as large as 28oz. I have yet to have a bottle ejected, which is pretty nice since my commute included a really crappy road that would at the least work my bottles partially out on other cages (until it got repaved this year). I have never used the Elite cages, though, so I can't make a fair comparison.

Looks like C wins.

BarracksSi 08-04-10 10:42 AM

I've got the Arundel Sideloader and OtherSideloader on my bike. They're turned so they both open towards my right since I'm so heavily right-handed -- I'd probably miss my face if I had to drink with my left hand. Sexy, sexy cages, and they seem to hold my Camelbak bottles really snugly.

Polar Foil 08-04-10 10:45 AM

I have A on my bike but I think C would look better on yours.

Not my experience with them and have them on several bikes including MTB. They work well, look good and cost nothing.

Really, the two reasons I went with the Arundel *-loaders are because I heard about them online and wanted to try them for myself, and because I walked into an LBS that carried them and asked for some bling-bling carbon cages. Expensive for a bottle holder, but just a fraction of the total bike cost, and hey, they're kinda slick. ;)

(ignore the Brooks; I could borrow a fancy modern saddle or Photoshop one onto it if you can't stand it :p )

i voted D

this is by far the best bottle cage i've ever owned:
http://www.carbonconnectionusa.com/m...i/file_5_5.jpg

i got mine for $35 each at Amazon.com but looks like they are now $40

my birthday is in 2 weeks and i asked for 2 more of these for my tri bike. i've only ever ejected 1 water bottle and it actually happened last night. and it only happened cause i went over railroad tracks while putting the bottle back in the cage and i didnt get it all the way seated.
