Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hooked In A Week

So last Monday I went and traded one of my guitars for a Cannondale CAD2 R300. It has the mediocre RSX Group Set and Mavic Xp11. I had wanted to get into road biking for the last year or two and thought this was as good a time as any. The bike had normal pedals and a kickstand when I got it so the first thing to go was the kickstand. Tires were very old but the bike was garage kept in perfect shape. I put some Continental Gatorskins on and off I went.

I've done 84 miles since then and am anxious to get back on it every chance I get. I've given up driving to work and now ride and use that to judge progress. I have basically shaved off an avg of 1.5 minutes per day. Today I went from riding to serious riding and put on some Speedplay Zero titanium clipless pedals with a pair of Carnac Ellipse shoes. My previous avg was 18mph and today was 20mph. What a difference the pedals make. I also swapped the stock seat post with the Cannondale C2 "Carbon" and it, at east, looks better. I'll probably just stick with the stock components while riding to get better and build the next bike.

I'm just amazed about how fast I got hooked.

Good work. I need to invest in some pedals too. Still rocking mtb shoes and spd commuter pedals. haha.

Good.

Ride hard. Ride safe. Keep in mind that "it's not about the bike."
