how to check pedal float?
hi, I have Shimano SPD mountain bike pedals. It feels like my left pedal has no float, while my right has a bit. Needless to say, this is hurting my left knee. Is there any way to check how much float each pedal has?

Those don't have adjustable float. So if one side is seized up, then something is wrong with your cleat and/or pedal.
ps: I guess you already knew something is wrong. What I should have said is that you should check the cleats for wear, and see if anything looks banged up in the pedal. It's not an adjustment issue.

a couple of things for the op to consider:
• the m520 pedals have dual cleat tension adjustment on each pedal so are they the same on both pedals?
• do you prefer to clip in and out at stops with the same foot leading to one excessively worn cleat, and one with less wear?
