Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Being serious for a second, you say how hard it is to lose weight but even with your low calorie requirement you have lost weight. Did you go hungry?

What kills me is when you get down to a good weight and then everyone hounds you for being "gaunt". I am too fat now and at one point I was at a pretty good weight. Its funny how I got attacked for being 5'11 and 150 lbs, funny thing is by some standards that was even heavy for this sport.

I ride 300+ miles weekly and watch the diet. I figure I'm riding 20 hours weekly at that point (or more), that's burning over 10,000 calories per week. If I keep my diet at 2500 calories daily I should lose 1-2 lbs weekly. But I'd never actually weigh myself. Let's not get carried away. I don't want to know. If I look skinnier and my clothes fit looser that's enough for me. Eff the stupid bathroom scale, cruel mistress that she is.

That's enough seriousness for one day, I can't handle too much. It's too depressing. Reality bites. As Ruth Gordon was wont to say, never face facts.

The prepubescent girl look just doesn’t have much appeal to me. I'll happily remain in the slow lane, if it comes to that.

I'd rather be too skinny than be fat.

It's funny that you define a "man" by physical appearance.

That may be true for your 170lbs, but lugging around my Clyde as# is guaranteed to burn more.

Actually science tells us that the slower you go the more fat is used in exercise and the less glycogen. So, he would do better to join 15 mph group rides. Just sayin.

Let's see . . . I'm 55 years old, a hair over 5'10" tall, and currently weigh 158 pounds. I've lost 56 pounds (and am still losing weight) since I cut out the fried/junk foods and starting cycling again. What me worry?
