Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I need to be cool!

Okay I am going to bite the bullet and get the biking shorts and a jersey (hopefully if funds are there).

The wife got me some MTB pants and the chamois is pretty nice I must admit after using it for a while. But I want to be one of the cool kids and look like everyone else in the group! Has anyone some decent recommendations on brands that are decent? I see Nashbar has some decent brands at decent prices but have never ordered this stuff online.

I got my Pearl Izumi shorts from amazon, they were decently priced and fairly comfortable.

Use the link in my signature to buy stuff from hammernutrition. The stuff is really well priced and plenty comfy. I bought a ton of their bibs when I was in school because I didn't have money. Now I'm out of school, and have even less money. Go figure.

Velowear is decent as well.

Yeah I see they carry the other brands as well. Izumi, Cannondale, etc. Any suggestions?

The title reminded me of those lyrics. I felt compelled to post some noise, as there was entirely too much signal in this thread.

Edit to be useful: I have cannondale bibs, I don't have anything to compare them too, but I don't have any problems with them either.

I see on performance bike that they have a combo going for shorts and a jersey for like 55 bucks. Anyone have experience with Performance??

I like all my Nashbar shorts.
The Performance shorts are the worst ones ( and the most expensive) I have bought.

love2pedal and aerotechdesigns if you are on a budget. Used them on long rides with no problems. Very comfy!

I miss Freddy.

My Performance Elites from several years ago have held up...they were pretty inexpensive as I recall.

I started with performance elite bibs, then performance ultra bibs (2x), recently added voler elite FS bibs. The volers go on sale down to $90-100, I would get those at that price. I believe they're the same as the hammer nutrition bibs, just without the logos.

The elite/ultra bibs have been functional for me, ultras were ok up to 50 miles (longest i've done). The voler bibs seem to fit better but my longest ride is only 30 in them so far. My elites are 2 years old, ultras are 1 and 2 years old and still holding up. (wash on delicate, hang to air dry)
