Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

101s are relatively heavy -- and significantly heavier than their primary competition, the HED Ardennes. OTOH, they share the achilles heel of the Ardennes which is a low spoke count of very light spokes. (They specify the same spoke brand and model.) HED puts a 190 lb. weight limit on the Ardennes. I had spoke trouble with mine at 168 lbs.

I suspect you would have spoke issues with the 101 at 215 lbs.

Yes. Especially for heavy clincher aluminum wheels.

They say they're the most aero aluminum clinchers on the market. I'm sure they're more aero than anything else out there, but is it a difference you can feel or is it significantly measurable in the real world? As much as all the marketing hype claims I doubt it highly. If you need new clinchers just pick up some EA70's or go custom. The more I ride, the more I've found that if you've ridden one Al clincher, you've ridden them all.

Price is wayyyyyy high, but check out the review on testrider.com if you're itching to blow the money. Also, check out the ROL Race SL if you're looking for new aluminums--30 mm deep, Sapin CX Ray spokes, solid price.

testrider.com NEVER fails to rave over a primary sponsor's products. If you want to be convinced to buy SRAM/Zipp/affiliated company products, testrider.com is the place to hear positive reviews. (Are they owned by SRAM/Zipp or just heavily sponsored by them?)

I believe the 404s(that you already have) are the ideal all around wheel set.

yes, why do you want aluminum clinchers? there is no real reason except for training if you have 404s in which case, just get some training wheels in the $300 or less range, so you can put on the nice ones when races come around. \

Also as far as aero goes, you have aero race wheels, so for training (which is the only use I can think you are buying them for) then you really don't need to worry about aero.

And they are way expensive at $1300, you can find comperable wheels around the $700 range

Don't know who owns them. But they also give rave reviews of Shimano Di2 (I know, everyone does). But they do give attention to other companies besides SRAM/Zipp. Actually to me they just seem to like everything they get...

carbon wheels are inherently more fragile than aluminum wheels and should be treated as such. training/riding "all around" on aluminum wheels makes for a far less stressful ride. That being said, get some ksyrium sl's or elites(the 2011's look really classy)

What we need is a Top Gear for bikes, with someone like Thor Hushovd disguised as the Stig, and on a channel or website like the BBC which is not supported by advertising. Then they can say anything they want.

Do you even race?

I know it's a free country, and folks are free to spend their money as they like....but unless you are racing, coughing up money for ZIPPs seems kinda silly to me.

I know a guy, for example, who is a good guy and weighs about as much as the OP, rides ZIPPs and twiddles about at 15MPH.

OK I will get off the soapbox now.

For $650 you can get the Rol Race SL-R (extra spoke count). The wheels are exceelent and put Mavic's to shame Save your $$, get some ROL's

This is the second ROL recommendation in this thread. Maybe you should listen to us?

No. Noone really knows anything about them.

All you're going to get in the way of feedback is people who have never ridden them telling you to buy something else.
