Shaving Your legs.
So for all the men out there
Do you race? If so do you shave your legs? Why? If You do not race, do you shave your legs? If so why. |
|
I'm not currently but will start again in the near future. Main reason, when I hit the ground it is much easier to tend to the wounds. When I raced it was almost a requirement, people in the peloton didn't get much respect if they had hairy legs. Like it or not, it's just the way it is.
As an added bonus it certainly feels better (cooler temp wise) on hot days. |
The last time this was asked (yesterday?), somebody posted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRdfX7ut8gw I thought it was a good answer.

Don't race, might try a crit next year, but seems incredibly boring.
I do ride hard, fast, and sometimes with training groups. Accidents happen. I also climb and descend mountains hitting 30-50mph on a weekly basis. I have crashed and slid across the pavement at 30mph. Bandages can adhere to smooth flesh... not the gorilla coat I would have otherwise. Also lower chance of infection due to dirt trapped by hair. It feels good in hot weather. Legs and arms show muscle definition better. Gotten several compliments on muscular legs since shaving... the smooth shaved aspect is really only pointed out and ribbed by people who knew me prior. |
i do. not for riding, but cause its cooler at work. Shaved legs dont hold sweat. at 110-120* in saudi working on planes, its just easier to have a smooth body

It's tradition.

The word is "vanity".
The lady's like it and compliment, I consider that a definite plus. |
It makes me feel pretty....
Just kidding. no amount of shaving is gonna help that. I do it for a couple reasons mainly wound care and tradition. My wife likes it too... |
Just do it!

If You do not race, do you shave your legs? If so why. No. The last thing I feel like doing is keeping up with shaving my legs. 'sides, I had a pretty severe crash with road rash on my leg a few years ago and the hair that had previously been on my legs in those areas was the least of my worries. |
I will never shave my legs. I'll take my chances on road rash etc to not look like a freak.
|
I'm experiencing a serious case of deja vu.

and, you don't need to sugar coat it.
The reasons for most on here if the truth be known: Vanity Tradition. Acceptance. Posing. Wound clean up. Whatever, but ok. Cooler. Some merit. Massage. Valid reason Aero. Get real. Chicks dig it. Not all. Maybe it reminds them of an "experimental" phase. |

What really pushed me over the edge and got me to start shaving was the day I grew tired of snagging leg hair when I was putting on the shorts. I'd go to adjust the bottom of the short, (the cuff?) and couldn't avoid pulling leg hair in the process. So I shaved them. Now I don't have that problem. It took a long time to get used to the feeling of wearing pants when off the bike though, lemme tell ya

Not all. Maybe it reminds them of an "experimental" phase. If you're pro, it's for massages (like jdon said). If it weren't for massages they wouldn't be able to ride grand tours, they're far more important than us mere mortals understand. |
