Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanks @seymour1910 I completely forgot to put what size. I would need a 63 cm or 60 cm. My short list is the 2014 Ultegra or the 2013 Black Inc (DREAM BIKE). I'm in NYC. Thanks for any info.

Been making some upgrades and purchases recently. I froze my expander plug, so I splurged and replaced it with the Cannondale EVO SI lightweight expander plug. Currently awaiting this parts arrival. Recently picked up some Speedplay Zero Chrome-Moly pedals on the cheap and purchased some Ti spindles for them. This is the most significant upgrade for the bike so far. The Shimano 5700s I was on weighed in at 318 grams, the Ti spindle Speedplay Zero pedals come in at 166g. I wanted to be on Speedplays from the beginning, but was offered a great deal on Shimanos upon purchasing my bike. Only clipped in to the Speedplays a few times on the trainer just to get a slight feel for how they work. If the expander plug arrives by Friday, I'll spend the weekend out on the bike - which is huge for me considering I don't get to ride all to often.

Hope to get an overall weight of the bike on Monday. I was at 17 lbs 13 oz stock.

Contact Chris @sid's

When I was searching for my 10-2, Sid's had quite a few closeouts and some new 2014 CAAD10's rolling in at pretty good prices. They got two locations about ten blocks apart in the east and west side of NYC.

While you're at it, check out Paragon's which is near Sid's West Side. Both shops will give you a 10% off if you are a Transportation Alternatives member.

Try pads first. If you still want to upgrade match calipers to shifters. Shimano and SRAM have different cable pull rates.

how good is the SRAM Red 22 compared to the 6800? I'm on the fence between the 2014 Black inc and the 10-3. Really liking the 10-3, don't know enough about the Sram groupset to know whether i'd like it. Weight isn't an issue, i've got loads to lose off my lardass. I won't be able to check out an LBS for a while as I'm travelling, if any of you guys can weigh in I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I'll be doing lots of 40-60 mile rides, which is what I do now on my Schwinn, and the occasional race...working up to those.

When figuring out the build for my new bike I went through a similar problem (though Red22 vs DA9000) and test rode my friend's bike for a weekend with Red22. In short, if weight isn't a concern I'd go for Shimano primarily because you're already used to the shifting method.

The Red22's Yaw front derailleur is quite good and comparable with the 9000's with the 9000 shifting smoother while the Red22 feels more solid albeit slightly noisier when it shifts. For me though, I had never ridden a SRAM groupset and over the course of the weekend I found that it took a fair amount of focus to remember to shift properly using the SRAM style shifters. I would probably get used to it after some time if I did go with the Red22, but why go through that if I can just go Shimano and have a system I'm used to already?

All just my opinion, but I hope that helps

I bought a CAAD3 for parts to use on an '86 SR build. The OP attempted to rebuild it as a hybrid.

Overall it was nicer than the price suggested so the SR build was put on hold and I built a replacement distance roadie. Originally a '99 R1000T.

Hello, newbie here and soon to be a CAAD10 owner. Just sold my previous bike so I walk in to a local bike store here and saw a CAAD10 in BBQ. I have been looking for used CAAD 10 for a while now but decided to get a new one. The owner let me test drive it and man its so smooth and feels so light compared to my previous bike. Its still has a stock tires and wondering how it will ride with a better tires. I ordered one and should get it by tomorrow or Saturday.
Any suggestions for tires will be great. Also looking for advise for a lightweight SPD pedal. Thanks.

What a CAAD10 in BBQ?
Matte black, brushed ALU, polished stainless steel?

Tires need to go. The Durango's are terrible but so much better than the Lugano's. Try the continental GP400s - great tires but a little expensive.

+1 for gp4000s, also look into 25mm tires. Makes a big difference in ride comfort
