Excited to join the CAAD club. Ended up picking up that CAAD 5 (2004 R600) for $300. Came with a bunch of extras like a tri bar, pump, saddle bag. I'll probably sell the tri bar though.

-Shimano 105 shifters
-Tiagra FD
-Ultegra RD
-Truvativ Elita SR triple crank (52/42/32) -- (sounds like this Truvativ ISIS bracket will be rather inconvenient to remove)
-Shimano cassette 9-speed (12-26)
-Don't remember the brakes but they said Cannondale on them, I think they're cheap
-Slice fork
-Fizik Poggio saddle

Might ride it for a while before I take it apart but I'd ultimately like to get it sandblasted and then ride the raw aluminum look with decals or paint it blush like the specialized SL7. I'll include the two inspirations at the bottom of this post. I'd have to grab some black brakes, RD, crankset and maybe shifters as well (does Shimano make black FD?). There's a black 11-speed 6800 Ultegra crank for sale locally for a decent price, so I may have to jump on that.

I like the red, but yeah, a bare Al with a black Group would look sweet.

I had a similar Truvativ triple crank on my old Schwinn and didn't care for it.

After selling my CAAD10 in 2018 I've always wanted to be back in the cult. I just finished putting this CAAD3 together and I'm happy to be on a CAAD again.

Is it still possible to buy a brand new CAAD12? Or are they pretty much gone by now?

Anyone put 28s on a CAAD10? I’ve been rolling on some rougher terrain lately, and I’ve been generally getting away with it on my 23s, but had a pinch blowout coming off the gravel this morning.

Does tubeless interest you? I went with Mavic UST on my CAAD 12 about 3 yrs ago. I have not had a flat or an issue. And, instead of running my tires at 100/120 psi I am running 75/90 psi. More comfortable, rolls quicker and lighter. I'm running 25s.

Tubeless doesn't not interest me, and I've read that the Ksyriums on my other bike can be set up as budget tubeless, but I don't have a 100% guarantee that they'll work, and buying a new set of wheels at this point in time is not going to happen.

I always ran Ksyrium Elite clinchers before I went to Ksyrium Elite USTs. Three years ago I bought a set of those USTs for under $600 and they came with Yksion tires because the wheels and tires were developed as a "system." I've been cycling for over 40 yrs. and going to tubeless is the best mod I've ever made. And, in the beginning I was a total skeptic. Just my experience.

Totally with you here and went tubeless on all my bikes. Less weight, smoother ride, and self-sealing for most cuts. Easy to convert after the inicial intimidation. Although most likely not recommended, I went tubeless on tubeless rims without issue as long as they are hooked rims with imbedded spokes.

I used 28s on my CAAD10 with no issues. And they were Michelin Pro4 Endurance models which are known for running large, so they were probably more like 30mm tires.

Following up on this...

Decided to make a project out of it. I ended up not sandblasting it, which I think was the smart choice. I've come to appreciate the loud branding. I also saw a couple of these red Cannondale frames fitted with some darker components which I liked so I decided to commit to all black.

I'm pretty thrifty online so the only things I paid retail for were the tape, bb, chain and cables/housing. Everything else was purchased [very lightly] used or new through a reseller. The components are pretty much all Shimano:

Crankset: Shimano 5800 compact with 165mm crank arms (craigslist)
BB: Shimano BBR60 (ebay)
Shifters: 5800 2x11 (facebook marketplace)
Brakes: 5800 (ebay)
Cassette: 5800 11-28t (fb marketplace)
RD: 5800 short cage (fb marketplace)
FD: R7000 (fb marketplace)
Saddle: Fizik Antares R1 Versus Evo (offerup)
Pedals: Shimano PD-A530 (a bike shop in cali called bicycle czar)
Stem: Fizik Cyrano R5 (fb marketplace)
Bars: Some random compacts off a newer Felt bike (fb marketplace)
Chain: KMC 11-speed (amazon)
Wheels: Mavic Aksium (offerup)
Tires: Gatorskin 28mm (came with the wheels)
Tape: Zipp Service Course (planet cyclery)

The new components brought this bike back to life. Love it.

That R600 is a beaut, and I’m a guy who usually prefers to see silver components on a classic roadie like that. The black goes perfect with that paint job and really makes it look fresh.

I do like that Truvativ crankset, though, and I hope you found a use/home for it!

I sold the whole groupset on eBay rather quickly actually!

CAAD13 tyre clearence

I wonder what tyre widths people have managed to fit on the CAAD13 with fenders (front and rear)? I know that the official max from Cannondale is 30, but see reports online about 32 working in practice, however, I would need to clear that it is with fenders? Thanks!

This isn't exactly to your point but I just went from 25 mm tubeless to 28 mm tubeless and I don't see a difference. I will be trying to give a better assessment with time but that's it so far.

Vredestein DuoComp 28s on CAAD12. Descending at 77 Km/h breaking like nothing else, running on 85PSI really smooth.

Only problem is that you cannot remove the wheel on modern SHIMANO calipers (BR-R8000) even if you flip the quick release. I need to have slack on the wire, tightened by the adjuster so by screwing the adjuster to have enough gap to pull the wheel out without having to deflate the tyre...

I have had a couple more rides and am seeing increased comfort. They also roll nicely but that's subjective. I have no way to measure it. I'm happy with the change.

1997 CAAD2 R300, 60cm. Still working on this bike... Found it, vefore it was sent to the dump...

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...31b38d57f7.jpg
1998 CAAD2 R200 58cm. Bought new in 98. I crashed on this bike in 2011, breaking my back and other fun stuff. This bike is mostly original except wheels and handlebar/stem, they were bent in that crash... I use this exclusively on my indoor trainer. I am afraid to ride it outdoors, and can't let it hurt someone else. So it stays indoors...

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f74cebc749.jpg
2006 CAAD8 58cm. Bought it 2 years as a bare, never ridden frame. Bike had been stripped when new, components donated to a carbon bike... This bike is my reward for losing 140 pounds.
