Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd asked in the "Caad People... Fork Queston" thread, but didn't get a response.. How do you figure out the correct rake if you're considering an aftermarket fork?

Thanks!

You could try looking at your current forks steerer tube. It should be marked. My CAAD 4 and 9 both have 43mm in stock form.

It's 43, but you can use 45 with little if any noticeable difference.

Ya I love that fork. My LBS took it off a cervelo S1 2010 and sold it to me for cheap.

I am considering taping off the grey/gloss black sections and painting over the red section matte black

Bontrager tape is very similar to what Cannondale offers stock.

I personally do not like any tape that has gel or excessive padding - No Fizik gel, no Specialized Bar Phat. I prefer Fizik Microtex tape with the suede texture.

I had the Cannondale OEM Gel Tape. Sucked worse than a good Hoover.

Now, my OEM Bontrager tape was excellent.
I know an LBS owner who loves it too.
So much so that he used it on his $12,000. Project One Madone.

I currently used Fizik Microtex with Fizik's Gel pads on the bar.
Made a huge difference for me personally in riding comfort.

I was getting my bike fitted with a new group at one of my favorite Bike Stores (Spokesman Cycles at Atlas Park) and remembered that they have this on the showroom floor:

Its a CAAD5 outfitted with campy record 10s. Its totally brand new built up from a CAAD 5 they had unassembled in a box in storage as well as the campy record. They even have the super old school Rolf Vector Comp wheel set.

The pricing ($1999) isn't that bad actually since its totally brand new and backed by the store.

it works perfect with that CAAD though right?

thats the whole reason the started to offer CAAD 10 with Dura Ace. People just started aftermarket modifying the hell out of their CAADS with top flight groupsets, wheels, and components anyway.

here's the Pelothon Magazine Video Feature from Canondale about the whole process of figuring out how to create CAAD 10.

Yep. I'm one of those "people". Last item to complete my CAAD9 was a wheelset.
I came damn close to "settling" for a set of wheels that met my weight requirements,
but didn't pack the visual punch that I've trying to incorporate into my build.
I figured if I went pretty much all the way on everything else,
why "settle" one one of the most noticeable parts: The Wheelset.
She'll be done tomorrow. The wheelset is on order.
Here is what she'll have on her up until now:

Upgrades so far...
-Ultegra SL Double Crank w/
-Dura Ace 7800 Chainrings
-Dura Ace 7800 Bottom Bracket
-Dura Ace 7800 Shifters
-Dura Ace 7800 Front Derailleur
-Dura Ace 7800 Rear Derailleur
-Dura Ace 7801 Chain
-Ultegra 6600 Cassette
-Dura Ace 7900 Pedals
-Ultralight CNC Brakes
-SwissStop GHP2 (Green) Brake Pads

Cockpit:
-Bontrager XXX Race Lite OS Stem
-FSA K-Wing Compact 44cm
-Fizik MicroTex Tape & Gel
-Fizik Aliante w/Carbon Rails
-Fizik Cyrano Seatpost (Carbon)

Wheels:
-Continental Grand Prix 4000S Tires
-Continental Race Lite Tubes

Incoming...
-Wheelset Soul S2.0

OEM Parts left on bike...
-CXP22/C3 Hub Wheelset

Accessories:
-Radbot 1000 Tail Light
-ViewPoint Flare 5 Headlight
-Camelbak Podium Ice Bottles
-Arundel Mandible Bottle Cages

Once the wheelset is on, I'm looking at her being in the 15.65lb range.
For the money I put into her, that might not be light enough for some folks,
but I built her to be a high speed cruiser with the stiffness to get-up-and-go when called upon.
I think the new wheelset will definitely tie everything together and
allow me to get the most out of all the other upgrades I have into it.

SRAM Red, Thomson stem, Fulcrum Racing 3s (though I'm about to borrow a set of Zipp 101s from a buddy to try out), Swiss Stop Green Flash pads, etc.

Ohhh yeah...

Again, this fork would've looked awesome on your CAAD just like that SRAM black/solid white looks great on it.
BUT! It's going to have to look <awesome on mine. I'm going to try to stain the lettering to be dark stealth charcoal gray.

only reason i upgraded anything on my bike was for comfort and fit.

fizik saddle
fizik post (for better support of carbon rails)
easton 90 bars (swapped from those 70s lbs gave me)

elite bottle holders (since i read good reviews)

wheels are something else i want to be upgrading but something within budget, stiff/light/reliable, good all around wheels...that includes entire built wheel with hubs/spokes...not sure i want to do custom wheels...
