Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Two q's about my new CAAD9-6 frame: (double grey-lighter/darker on the vertical sides of the tubes)

1. It has Shimano Hollowtech 2 cups installed. The cups are totally stuck in there. I've stripped the frame but the BB cups will not budge. How can I tell if it's a BB30 frame (are they all?)? If it is there must be some sort of adapter, so is there some trick to get them out? I would like to get a Si SL crank someday.

2. Anyone know the headset standard? A integrated Campy Hiddenset 45/45? Does not look like a FSA IS-2 36/36 standard.

I am about ready to go to the LBS and look into a Caad 10 with ultegra. I think i want in the cult, however reading about the Cannondales being made overseas is starting to freak me out. I have not rode one yet,is there a difference in the ones now versus the ones made in the USA, also they seem to be a little bit overpriced but i'am not sure. what does the cult say?

The 10 is an awesome frame. You won't regret it.

Ride report: I took the Caad out for the maiden ride today and all I can say is WOW!, this thing has snappy acceleration and steering ability for lack of a better way to describe it. I really liked how the bike handled, I see what everyone has been talking about in this sub-forum now . I got in about a 27 mile ride and it shifted smooth as a baby`s behind. Oh, Bianchi10 I did move the seat up alittle over half an inch after I took these pics and it fit better, might even go more and Spookeay bird you did a great job on the pink Caad.

Sounds like you will enjoy the bike for a while! keep playing with the saddle height and position. Took me a while to find that sweet spot and it was higher than I would have thought.

Hey all. I don't own a road bike (just a FG commuter for school), but I found this review of a CAAD9 and looking at the pictures made me want to cream myself.

Edit: What year and CAAD9 model is the one pictured? I feel like the 105 version (is that the 9-5?) would make for a good 'first bike.' But who am I to say. The ones near me seem over priced.

That "looks" like a CAAD9-4 (Rival). Could be 2010. And it's gorgeous!
And, a CAAD9-5/10-5 are excellent entry-level bikes (a lot of bike for a newbie).

If that CAAD9-5 for sale is "new", overpriced is a relative term.
You could possibly get a CAAD10-5 for that, but it wouldn't be a "Handmade in USA"
frame that holds a special place in the hearts of the majority of CAAD fans.

I paid $750. for my CAAD9-7 brand new. I wanted just the frame which was selling for more
at the time so I know I got a great deal, but mind you, I got it "in" the winter of 2010.

Whether or not that price is high depends on how bad you want a possibly new made in America CAAD9. If that was the cheapest price I could find for a CAAD9 frame at the time I was shopping for one, then it would be a low price. Do your research. You might find a hidden gem in a bike shop that might ship to you. Shipping averages between $75.-$100. You have to add that to the price of a bike you buy online.

When I got my CAAD9, nothing was going to stop me from getting a new 56 BBQ non-BB30 frame. I got super-lucky (fate?).

Ride a new CAAD10 and a CAAD9. Compare them. You might have a preference for one over the other. A lot of CAAD10 owners who have ridden both say the 10 is noticeably smoother and more comfortable than the 9. Something to consider.

Here is what is possible with a BBQ CAAD9 56cm if the spirit moves you
(Dura Ace 7800/Ksyriums/Fizik.FSA Cockpit/Edge 1.0 Fork/16.57lbs):

Oh, I forgot to mention I hit 28.8 for MX spd on the flat, my fastest time ever, but I did get some help from a tailwind that was fun. Did I say I really like this bike?

Thanks for the info, 2ndGen! Definitely bookmarking your post. Also, your BBQ CAAD9 looks beautiful! (I think I'm in love with murdered-out builds; currently building the Kilo that way.)

Newer Asian-manufactured CAAD's are more comfortable according to CAADicts who've owned and/or ridden both. I strongly suggest you ride both if you can. Either way, ride whatever bike you're going to buy "before" you buy it of course to make sure you're getting what you want.

There's a "reason" CAAD's are loved by fans, appreciated and respected by non-CAAD owners and hated by the clueless! Your giddiness reminds me of my first ride when I completed my build. But I have to admit, I still get that feeling when I get up to hammer it and she responds. It doesn't get old with me.

Enjoy!

2010+ CAAD9-6's are BB30's.
If it's a BB30, you can get a Hollowgram.
If not, you'll need an adapter.
Post pics of it.

FWIW, my local Cannondale dealer looked into getting me a 2012 CAAD10 frameset today. According to them, the color options are the Liquigas Replica scheme, and the black one with white lettering. Bummer, considering I wanted the black on black or the brushed aluminum finish.

Anyway, thought I'd share in case anybody had the same question as me a couple pages ago.

Thank you. Pics forthcoming after I complete the build. First I need a headset! Can anyone confirm it is a Campy Hiddenset standard? Also, how can I tell which year it it? There's no marking on the downtube indicating it's a BB30 so I guess not?

I'm a black/black kind of guy, but I must admit, I really like that Replica scheme.
