Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2003 Fuji Team for $850 Vs 2005 Specialized Allez Elite for $1050

I was almost decided on buying the 2005 specialized allez elite triple. I just walked into another LBS to check out some shorts and there was a 2003 Fuji team on sale for an insanely low price. I liked the ride comfort of the allez but I liked the responsiveness of the fuji.

When riding the Fuji, I was feeling every bump in the road through the saddle. The buzz through the handlebars was tolerable. Are there any ways to make the fuji ride better. It comes with an aluminum seat post. Would using a suspension seat post make the ride better?

Fuji Specialized

Frame X Fusion Columbus SLX Steel
Fork Carbon Carbon
Derailer Full Ultegra Full 105
Seatpost Aluminum Carbon

Newbie Questions

1. Both the bikes fit me perfectly. Value wise which one is a better deal?
2. Are there any ways to make the aluminum bike ride more comfortably (not feel most of the bumps in the road). Would adding a carbon or suspension seatpost help?
3. Finally, which of the two would you buy?

I think SPECIALIZED are a lot of hype ....but lesser substance. I could
be wrong.

I have a FUJI road bike, paid a low price, very happy with everything.

The Columbus SLX on the Specialized is aluminum, not steel. Having said that, it's a pretty high end frame for the price and dampens vibration well for aluminum even without the benefit of carbon seat stays. It's the frame that was on the 2004 Allez Comp and Allez Pro.

I would try the Fuji with the Specialized seat post and see how that works. If the seatpost fixes the problem, it looks like you've solved your main concern with the Fuji.

I have an '03 Fuji Newest, and am picking up an '04 Professional for cheap (new). I like the ride of the Newest, but it could be smoother - which the professional will be. What size bike do you ride? Mine are 64's and the Newest is "gone" as soon as I pick up the new one.

Thanks decisivemoment, the columbus slx is aluminum.

Kevmetric could you tell me why you think that the specializeds are overrated? I am still confused between the 05 allez elite and the 03 team.

And finally would adding a carbon seatpost remove the road buzz? The LBS doesnt have a carbon seatpost in stock so I cant put it on the Fuji and take it for a spin.
