Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

EDGE Composites Wheels

Hi all,

I have ordered the following for my new frame.

2010 Edge Composites 45 Clincher Wheelset

https://www.competitivecyclist.com/ro...93.2573.0.html

They will be used solely for climbing. Any input on the quality/feel?

Thanks!

I'm curious as to why you spent $2600.00 dollars on a pair of wheels, then asked what their quality/feel is like?

It's the first time I try Edge wheels. Some user feedback would be good to hear.
Thanks.

I'm anxious to see what people's riding experiences are. What's interesting is CC's test weight was 70 grams less than the manufacturer's claimed weight. If I was in the market for another set of wheels, these would be at the top of the list.

If youre unsure, you might have asked this before you shelled out the cost of a new bike on a set of wheels...just sayin'.

The team car swaps them for downhill wheels at the top.

I don't own these wheels but I've ridden them in some TT's this year. The set I rode was a custom build with PT SLC+ rear hub. These wheels feel fantastic! They roll extremely smooth and feel stiff. I did go pretty fast on them, the first time I rode them this year I set a PR that ended up being my 2nd best time of the year (28:30-something in a 20k) of the year. I could definitely feel their lightness compared to my regular DT1.2 rims with PT Pro+ rear hub. They spun up fast and seemed to take a little less power to hold at speed even though there are more aero wheels out there. They impressed me similar to my first ride on 404 tubulars.

I don't think he means that asking for user experiences is a bad thing, but rather that it's a question best asked for BEFORE parting with your $2600...

I don't use them, but Edge is a great company.

By the way they are no longer called Edge. Now they're Enve. You bought some of the last Edge wheels.

We're just having a little fun.

Hope you like your wheels. How did you choose them and what others did you consider?

Those seem like a strange choice for all climbing, where the profile has the least benefit and the extra weight the most penalty.

One thing I can tell you is that the 45s and Conti tires hate each other.
Always have a tough time mounting the tires on.

Resonating the sentiments of others, not exactly the best climbing wheelset. But compared to other deep rims, it IS one of the lightest around.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. They look more like flatlander wheels.

I have an Edge all carbon saddle. It's 110g and real purty gold weave.

Rides good, too.

But I only shelled out $90, not $2600 - on a flyer.

they are far less money from someone like psimet, did you actually buy them from CC? $2,600 is the highest price i've seen these go for...

Hopefully the deep dish wasn't the sole defining factor for a climbing wheelset. The 45's would be better because they'd be lighter and are you really going fast enough for aero advantage uphill? You've given zero input so far as to why you chose this wheel, so I'm calling troll unless you give more info and less snarky comments.

They only weigh 1320 grams per CC. That's pretty light for any wheel.

This wheel was chosen for the fact that it is one of the lightest carbon clincher available.
I also needed a rim that has some depth, as the roads in Lebanon are not the smoothest.

I looked at these before I realized I'm cheap'ish and bought some 404's on ebay. I'd like to try them though. GL

They are really nice wheels and are lighter than most around. Plus they are superbling and you got the 45's - nevermind, I thought you got the 65's probably because I was looking at the Handspun 68mm Edge handbuilt wheels (not that I'd have the cash to buy them). 45's are probably pretty good in general for added versatility in addition to climbing.
