ARGON Gallium - SRAM vs Cervelo S1
Hello all,
First post from a newbie here. I have been to a local and trusted LBS and looked at a handful of bikes. Willing to spend around $2000-2750 and will be doing charity rides, rides with friends and the like (25-150km rides).
I am looking at two bikes. The ARGON18 Gallium - SRAM and a Cervelo S1. I have ridden the S1 and will ride the Argon as well, but wanted everyone's opinion on a few of their technical differences;
- carbon vs carbon/alum hybrid - I seem to hear mixed things here. Durability being the main thing. Some posters seem to think the hybrid over time could present durability issues around the weld/connection points.
- SRAM vs Shimano Ultegra - I am sure much of this is simply rider preference, but I would enjoy hearing everyones opinion.
Any other big differences you see between the two?

I thought the S1 was all aluminum. The only two options you list is carbon vs. carbon/aluminum. What am I missing?

I may be wrong, but I thought the S1 used carbon front forks. What I am really not sure about is the rear triangle. I had heard it was carbon and was welded/fused to the alum. frame, but I may be completely off base there.

Oh yeah, I just consider a carbon fork a foregone conclusion nowdays. I'm pretty sure the S1 frame is all aluminum though, if it matters.

The red groupset goes well with the red motif on my bike.
All kidding aside I really do prefer SRAM. I'm riding Force right now which is awesome. I had 105 before and the shifting was terrible on both 105 rear derailleurs I had, the shifters are big, bulky and ugly and SRAM was so sexy I had to tap it twice. Also, on a more serious note, try both, figure out which fits your hand better and which mechanism you like better. If you ride SRAM you'll never go back to shimano...ever..except for front derailleurs...and non-bb30 cranks...and chains....and pedals....
