Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Deal or No Deal?

2010 Roubaix Expert SL

-Full Carbon
-Rovall Fusee EL wheels
-Full Ultegra

Slightly used Test Bike in a very nice red (instead of dark blue or white)

Asking: $2000

Price for a 'retail' Expert SL at the same shop: $2500 on closeout

Is this a good deal?

Good deal, nothing wrong with the bike.

Although, depending on your style of riding/ your purpose, a Tarmac Comp for $2000 might be a better. I just recently got Tarmac on sale, and I much prefer the pure race style as opposed to the 'relaxed/comfort' marketing of the Roubax. That said, the Roubaix is a nice bike that won't hold the average ride back at all

I would expect a bigger discount on a test bike and end of the year. $1700.

Sounds fair to me. If it fits, and you like the color, why not?

Does it come with a full warranty?

I ride with a friend that has a 2007 Roubix and he love it. The headtube is a little taller than a Tarmac so it will be more comfortable for longer rides. Since I am not competitive, the Roubix would be a better choice for me. If the bike is in good condition, it is a good deal. My friend paid $1900 for his and it has 105 on it and that was December of 2007

Seems reasonable especially if:

-6700 Ultegra
-It really is Full Ultegra (Cranks, Brakes are Ultegra too?)
-You're getting the full warranty from the shop

You can always offer a bit less, or ask that they throw in a particular saddle or helmet or something. They're more likely to be flexible if you're buying more than just the bike.

I'm almost positive it does.

$1700 would be great but $2000 I think is decent as well when the less-cool (my personal opinion based on color and rarity) version is another $500.

"Lightly Used" and "Test Bike". Yeah, been there, done that with a mountain bike. Ask for the shop to conduct a chain check using a Park Tool in front of you so you can see the result. A lightly used chain will show no wear. If the chain does not meet new chain specification, go for a lower price. If it meets spec, be prepared for them to hold their price.
When I bought a "demo" MTB, I had the shop try that test. It cost them another 10% on top of the 33% off sale price cause it failed.
EDIT: If a "demo" Specialized does not come with a new bike warranty, don't buy it. My MTB was a Specialized and it came with a full, new bike warranty.

I'll call up the LBS tomorrow to get some crystal clarity on the warranty.

Silly question:

You mentioned the chain wear factor. Forgive my noob'ness but when I see high mileage (hundreds if not thousands of miles) bicycles for sale they sometimes mention the chain has been replaced. What about the cassette and front sprockets? If the front sprocket becomes worn for example can I buy just an Ultegra 6700 sprocket?
