" and it features six pages of generally polite advice. If, say, Collin2424 had posted that he would have gotten maybe eight replies asking him what size is the bike and is he gonna put it on craigslist, one well thought piece of advice (probably from cdr) and the rest would have poked fun at him for a total of less than a page.

She definitely got an easier ride than is typical here, but sometimes that just happens.

However, not everyone gets sent through the ringer. When people genuinely appear to be trying to figure things out, people go much lighter on them. Other things that helped Jennifer included being very clear about what she didn't know and wanted to learn, leaving out bravado, being aware of the normal BF response, and nicely asking for something else. She included details that helped people understand who she was, and left out irrelevant ones that are fun to jump on. Writing in a style approaching standard English didn't hurt either.

And you'll notice she made none of those mistakes. Most people do at least one of those things, and most of the posters here are guys. If the women get easier treatment, part of it is that a number of them don't do the sort of things that normally provoke the regulars into having a field day.

Someone should at least photoshop that extra hand out.

On the off chance that there are still any women reading this thread, can we have a comment on that?

I am not a woman, but I have it on high authority that in the women's forum they strip down to their underwear and get into pillow fights nightly.

never realized. explains quite a bit of her posts.

Me too, shame on me. Even LawnChair. I guess I should go to Foo once in a while but it's almost like gate crashing a party. I am already ignored at the Addiction thread :(

logdrum 10-26-10 04:57 PM

But what is highly irritating is the one that opens up intelligently but will argue endlessly if they do not get the the answer that they expected.

You to what, you are a woman?

By the way, I don't think anyone gets ignored in addiction, man or woman.

logdrum 10-26-10 05:21 PM

You misunderstood, me too like botto did not know you were a woman. And LawnChair as well - I thought was a man. Hence shame on me.

Addiction has an undeniable core group and that is all good. What I said was tongue in cheek. I usually look for amusing coasting and VeloVol banter once in a while and was at one point curious how long that thread could get.

This is too funny. I started coming here a few months ago after reading about this forum on another forum. There was a thread with lots of discussion on what a bunch of *******s where over on this forum. What can i say, i think confrantation is fun. I take it all with a grain of salt. But, if you go to any thread on this site. You can't get 5 posts into it without someone getting flamed for something.

The purpose of these forums is to provide an environment for senior members to endlessly repeat themselves and admonish n00bs.

Under some circumstances, it is appropriate to discuss new cycling products -- so long as you have spent no less than 3 hours exploring the company website, all other forums, and the rest of the internet to make sure what you were going to ask wasn't already posted.

It is always OK to start a thread whining about repetitive threads. Although you'll see many of them, threads complaining about repetition are not considered repetitive, nor are single word posts that have been used hundreds or even thousands of times.

Excellent point! Why do we even NEED this forum? Why not end all active posting and simply let the archives provide the answers?

I think you may have wrecked it. This could have gone on for hundreds of pages.

I am not a woman, that was Botto trying to be funny.

I am not a woman either. My day as a woman was insightful though. I got tons of PM's that I still have to answer. Chini563 bought me a bike. I almost got into the women's forum. I passed the multiple choice quiz but my essay "My Vagina and Me" was given low marks by the Mods.

I would never say such a thing anyway. When you see a skunk wandering near a dog park, the last thing you want to do is drive it away. Much more fun to hang back and see who provokes it.

Everyone brings something to BF -- that's what makes this place what it is. I wouldn't have it any other way.

What is this other forum you speak of, it sounds like the promise land.
