People ***** when no one uses the search function and ***** even more when someone actually does.

Strava, the beta of the upcoming version is much refined.
|
I use Endomundo. The Mrs. can see where I'm at within 1 min.
|
I use MyTracks when I go on new routes, export that into MapMyRide and then if I do that route again I log a workout and copy data from my cycle-computer. If I'm sitting at my computer, I find it's a lot easier to plot a ride on MapMyRide than it is on google maps - which is kind of odd since one clearly uses the other.
For me the significant issue with MyTracks is that my google account is an apps account and my maps isn't compatible with that yet. It pretty much means I can't share my tracks with anyone else. |
I used to have Run Keeper, but realized that it drained my battery very quickly. Also tried MyTracks, but as others have said, it's too crude. Doesn't have the nice graphs that other apps have. It is great though if you want to spend the time and export the data into Excel to make your own graphs. MapMyRide has been great and that's what I have been using. I haven't looked into other apps since last year, so if there are specific reasons why you prefer one app over another, please mention them, otherwise the posts are not really helpful for making a choice.

garmin released garmin fit for droid and it will sync up with ur cadence and speed sensors
|
Sportypal pro seems pretty easy on the battery plus syncs up with my Zephyr HRM via BT.

Big +1 to this thread.
I tried Endomondo last night and I really dig it. This is after using CardioTrainer for more than a year and trying several other apps during that time and not liking them all that much. |
Just to be completely transparent, I lucked out and now work for the company & on the App I previously commented on. Go Android! :thumb:
|
I know this is an old thread, but it bears resuscitation:
In TODAY's app market - what is the best Android app for cycling? - Is it still Sportstracker? - And if so - why are there 2 apparently different "Sportstracker" apps in the market? - Or is one of the other - perhaps newer - apps better? There seem to be so many that I'm not inclined to load and try them all - I'm hoping someone here already has that knowledge. |
I LOVE STRAVA! You only get the basic info right on the phone, but you get soo much online!

On topic, I haven't tried any cycling apps yet, but I might go with Strava while my Garmin 500 is in the shop. I've heard good things about Strava and I think there are a few "records" I can take. |
I use Strava online, but I didn't know they had a mobile version. Do you have to have your GPS on? If so, I'll be it drains you battery quickly. I have the extended battery on my DRoid Incredible 2, but I may try the strava app. I also started using TrainerRoad last night. It's pretty cool too, but also no mobile app that I know of.
|
I'm currently using MapMyRide, but it's got a few quirks I don't like. I'm using it with a Samsung Galaxy tab, but I have the wi-fi only version. I'd like to be able to cache all the GPS and photo data and upload it all at once when I get home, but for some reason it won't let me take a photo without being connected to the net. Any of the other apps work in cached/offline mode?
|
Ok, for strava you have to have the GPS turned on. I really see nothing that strava offers that my garmin doesn't offer. Is there something I'm missing?

Almost a six hour ride! and I took some pictures and made a couple calls too. The strava app does not really tell much, but when you upload the ride online to your account you can get a lot more info. |

Endomondo is way easier on my battery than CardioTrainer or Runkeeper.
I did get a cycling computer with an altimeter though. I'll be using it and my smartphone in the Spring. Right now I need neither, on my trainer. :( |
btw - in regards to battery life I rooted my phone and put the cleanGB rom on it. Battery life is MUCH improved (probably partially because I don't have carrierIQ spying on me constantly in the background any longer). Also, some apps such as facebook will help drain your battery faster.
|
Here's another bump on thi thread, I still kinda like AllSportsGPS. Isn't to bad on battery (if you shut down other things like fb and twitter) does all I want it to on the phone, no uploading involved (I like all the bells and whistles right there ;) ) also, as said in another thread, just get a usb solar charger/battery for those longer rides.
I'm wanting to pick up a Joos Orange personally. |
